Rossana often deviated from evidence based therapy and imposed her own personal beliefs and biases on to me - most notably that she thinks intelligent women are less desirable than simple women, and suggested this was a reason for my not being in a relationship. She was no better than a high school bully, calling me “different” and an “outlier” and “not the norm,” attempting to justify why I’ve felt isolated in my life, and then attempted to then defend herself by stating this was a so called compliment. She continued to justify romantic rejections I’ve experienced by telling me a rejection is indicative that I “wasn’t the right fit,” comparing me to a t-shirt that doesn’t fit someone, as if women are pieces or clothing that are disposable if they do not “fit” a man. When I was attempting to get psychoeducation about why victims of abuse may find themselves in abusive situations repeatedly - instead of addressing this by teaching me the warning signs of abuse, she simply stated that because “I’m intelligent” it wouldn’t happen to me. This is deeply problematic and not the compliment she thought it was: because the flip side of her statement is that if you’ve been a victim of abuse more than once, it is reflective of a lack of intelligence. This is a very dangerous message to send survivors of abuse. Rossana lost all objectivity, retraumarized me, and made me feel more isolated than I have ever felt before.

Prior to working with Rossana, I tried to work with one of her associates, who pressured me via email to talk about masturbation with her despite my attempting to communicate I wanted privacy on this topic. When therapists normalize telling you your boundaries around sexual topics are wrong, they are setting you up for relationships where privacy is seen as wrong.

Rossana- I’m sorry to leave this review, but I owe it to myself and other women navigating therapy to be aware of the misogyny that is rampant in this field.
