Absolutely horrible and beyond unprofessional front desk staff! This review is specifically for the office manager named Deb. She is rude, aggressive, and probably mentally unfit to be working with patients. As a nurse myself, my opinion carries weight, and I can confidently say this is the worst service one can possibly imagine. I am usually very tolerant and patient regarding burnout and the stressors of the medical field, but this situation goes beyond acceptable. It’s a shame because I have zero issues with the medical care provided by Dr. Rashmi Prakash. I cannot speak for any other provider, as I only see her. However, the front desk team is equally important when dealing with small matters like orders, refills, and appointments. I have had issues with them, specifically with Deb, as she is the office manager and is often involved EVERY single time I needed something, whether big or small. Not once have things gone smoothly or peacefully. And I have let it go several times because I was satisfied with the care I received from Dr. Rashmi. However, today Deb literally shouted at me for over 10 minutes without allowing me to say a word to explain what I actually needed. She just kept telling me that she has done this for 35 years and is working on it without even hearing my request. At this point, I decided enough is enough. My husband and I will both leave the practice due to her horrendous behavior. I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone stay far away from this practice, as the benefits do not outweigh the horrific front desk service.

My husband and I have been with this group for over a year and I held on because the doctors are nice, but never in my life have I experienced this level of incompetence from a medical practice, especially the front desk staff. I'm currently looking for a new GP because I just cannot deal with the mistakes;
1. Wrong Rx being called in
2. Rx sent to the wrong pharmacy and then told that is what I had asked for. What? Why would I tell the staff I want my Rx sent to a pharmacy where I've never gotten an Rx filled?
3. Staff unable to understand what release documents a specialist requested that resulted in me being the go between calling a dozen times to help them understand and then being told to come in for an appointment (and charged double the time due to the Dr. not really understanding why I was there)when it wasn't required
4. Faxes that were supposed to be sent to specialists that were never received
5. Having to call and request multiple times to order a testing kit after being assured it was ordered the 1st and 2nd time but never was
6. My husband has been waiting for information on a pierce of medical equipment he needs for 6 months
7. Just today I see I was charged $145 for an eye exam, which I didn't have nor does my insurance cover, during a 2 minute Rx refill telehealth phone call! Are you kidding me?!
8. Messages are lost or misconstrued. Even though there is a patient portal where you can leave a message, I was informed, after messages weren’t answered, that those do not get checked. You also can only leave a message during business hours. Front desk seems overwhelmed and has been short on the phone with me, I’ve been disconnected several times and Deb hung up on me because she refused to listen that I didn't need to come in for an appointment to go over an MRI.
9. The staff is argumentative. The practice made Deb call me to apologize for hanging up on me. In a text where I was overcharged, her response started with "First of all....and then Second of all...." not, "let's see if we can get this straightened out".

***UPDATE***
I'd like to start by saying that I can admit when I have made a mistake. I did not need a breakdown of how a deductible works... I understand that. I simply didn't see the date on the statement (which was from the appointment where I left feeling down and unsupported by my physician). All of this, including my 1 star review, could have probably been avoided had someone simply answered the phone one of the dozens of times I called, months ago. I have paid this balance in full to your practice, despite Dr. Chan's poor bedside manner.

That being said, I awaited an alleged text you said in your first voicemail to me, Dr. Rashmi, that you would leave to schedule a better time to talk. As I work full-time overnights at the hospital, and go to school full-time during the day, I would have liked the opportunity to discuss my feelings with you... but the text to your "app" never came. Secondly, I find it interesting that you claimed to "not discuss personal health on a public platform," yet you then falsely implied that I use one of the "many injectable medications." I am not now, nor have I ever, injected myself with any medication for weight loss (Ozempic, Mounjaro, etc.). Again, had you taken the time to simply review my chart you'd know that. Thank you for providing yet another example of a time when your practice jumped the gun before simply double-checking. It would have taken less than 2 minutes time to simply walk me back to the scale and confirm my weight that day. There's no excuse. However, I do appreciate and thank you for your constant need to make excuses for your husband.

(EDITED ORIGINAL) I’m leaving this 1 star review after countless unanswered phone calls, and even text messages. I’d like to start by saying that I was referred to this practice by a friend who sees Dr. Shanthi and had nothing but great things to say about her. I made an appointment (which took over 3 days of trying to get someone to answer their phone) and was ā€œassignedā€ to Dr. Chan. Initially, he seemed like I had finally found the perfect fit for a PCP. I began my weight loss journey with him and made my dedication to this very clear at my first appointment. I had to come back every month to reweigh and reassess, as I was taking medication to help. One day, I came to weigh in, and the nurse told me I hadn’t lost any weight at all. When Dr. Chan came, he simply stated, ā€œSo you’re not gonna be a good candidate for this medication anymore. Maybe we can try again in a few months when you’re ready again.ā€ I honestly was shocked that no one ever thought to simply re-weigh me. This is especially shocking because at the first weigh-in, I lost 7lbs, then 10lbs, and then 11lbs. But no one ever questioned 0lbs… weird. When I got home and weighed myself I HAD, in fact, lost weight. I know my scale at home is different than theirs and blah blah blah, but to tell me I had lost 0lbs was incorrect. To completely give up on me and not even try to get to the bottom of what was wrong made me feel like my doctor had zero faith in me, and like he really just needed to move on to his next appointment. I told him I still wanted to continue on with this journey and would be back in a month to follow up (and essentially prove myself). Yet, when he walked me back to the front office, he told the lady at the checkout window, ā€œNo follow-up.ā€ So now he didn’t even care to see me anymore for this as he had, in fact, obviously given up on me. I made a follow-up appointment anyway, as I wanted to prove I could continue on without the medication. However, everything mentioned above really resonated with me. I made an appointment with a different weight loss clinic. I have continued to lose weight and am now below 200lbs -for the first time in years. If I had given up on myself like Dr. Chan, I probably would be back to my original weight right now.

This is the most unprofessional medical office I’ve ever been to. If you want to be treated kindly and respectfully, definitely go somewhere else.

The office staff, including the nurses (especially Sylvia), find it perfectly acceptable to yell at and berate patients over simple issues with ordering labs and sending paperwork. My specialist’s office just needed records and found them extremely hostile/unhelpful, and their attitude toward me was similar. Would not recommend this place under any circumstances.

Dr. Chan and Dr. Prakash are amazing! They are patient, listen, and provide excellent service and care. Highly recommended them both based on my experience with my Mom as their patient.

This is such a weird situation, and normally I wouldn’t leave a review for a place I wasn’t serviced at but I think it should be noted so the doctors are aware of their front desk staff.

I called for 3 days in a row, sitting on hold for over 10 minutes each time. I would hang up, try again, and be on hold even longer. And by ā€œholdā€ I mean that I was put on hold without ever speaking to a person, just listening to waiting music.

Eventually, I left a voicemail stating my full name, phone number, and that I would like to discuss becoming a new patient. I briefly detailed what type of insurance I have as well. It has been weeks and I have received zero correspondence! And on their website, they are listed as ā€œaccepting new patientsā€.

I’ve never been treated this way by any medical facility, and researched a lot about doctors in this area before reaching out to SMC. Unfortunately, I do not want to move forward any longer, as I cannot imagine why the front desk would just simply ignore me. Even if I were to miraculously become a patient, is this the type of service I would endure every time I call for an appointment or a pharmacy request?

I wish all of the medical staff well, but please discuss this with your office staff, as they are turning away business, and I’m not even sure you’re aware.

I absolutely loved it here! Its all about the doctors.
Doctor Chan is great. I am so happy that i have found a great doctor in Sarasota, thats not just about money. Answered every question ( i had about 20 questions due to not seeing a doctor for a long time). Helped me with my problem- and it took him only about an hour! I loved this place and the people here truly care for the promise they take in Medical school- to care for patients, not for the $. Best Doctor in Sarasota if not Florida.
