Obviously you people do not pay attention to any complaints or reviews because the service has not changed. Was there for mental health issues, but if I ever have to go again I will fight about it. The staff was incredibly rude and made me and my family uncomfortable. Not only were they making sexual remarks about other patients (saying only patients that have big chests should run down the hallways and that an older patient has huge balls), but they also would not let me shower nor did they change the IV that I had had in for days. It had old dried blood all over it and everything, seriously?! They hadn't even used it since I got there because it was hard to get my blood out... so they just left it in. They treated me and my family like a burden. I understand many people do not enjoy their jobs, but as a nurse your job is to literally help people. The worst part about all of this is that they knew I was there because of a suicide attempt. What kind of place is this? If someone else told me this happened to them, I wouldn't even believe them because of how ridiculous this all was.

Someone close to me was admitted to their mental crisis unit on August 29. From this day up until September 9 it was nothing but horrible communication and hardly any help. I was the primary contact for the patient and it took several phone calls before I was able to get an ounce of information about anything going on, even then it took me contacting the social worker (Clayton) to be able to get any sort of communication and what the progress was looking like before the patient could come home. During the process of trying to get any information I was accused of trying to "reverse the patients treatment" and the nurse (Pam) questioned if having the person in the mental crisis unit was giving me anxiety (again, accusation when I was just trying to get answers) I also got thrown in my face that I was trying to get information during a holiday (labor day) when I had previously been told it would not be a problem for me to contact with questions that day.
I have a service dog and during my visitation I was told that I was unable to take him back to the visiting area, but was given no actual explanation (the first day they allowed it, but the second day administration told the doctors I couldn't take him back but I was already at the hospital by the time they were informed)
After already being given the clear for discharge on Friday to go home Monday, the doctors called to clear for the patient to come home. I had already verified everything they needed, but they still suggested to hold them for another 24 hours (again, the patient was already told on Friday they would be ready for discharge on Monday by another doctor) When I went for pickup I did have my service dog with me (I needed him with me due to heat flare ups), I was told by a nurse downstairs when getting on the elevator that there was a policy in place. When told he was a service dog I received a remark telling me "good luck with that"
Shout out to Clayton, Emily, Zach, Kaye, Angela, and Chasity for all your help during this process!

Shoals hospital have constantly denied care for my 22 year old who is diagnosis with Paranoid Schizophrenia, Bipolar, and Asperges. I have been told the reason of denied of psychiatric care was because my son has Asperges even though it's not the Asperges that has caused him to have multiple suicide attempts, trying to attack me and others, running away, jumping out on the highway, etc. Since he was sent home in April from Birmingham, Alabama he has had 18 ER visits in all 3 hospitals in the Shoals area. But Shoals Hospital is the only one that has psychiatric care. I have reported them to the administrator office but nothing was done. Also, the doctors and nurses were very rude with me. My son is currently in the ER at Helen Keller for stabbing him self in the head. They are trying to find him a placement but have not had any luck because of his dual diagnosis. Overall Alabama needs to do better! People in Alabama really need quality mental health care! What do the doctors go to school for if they state they can't provide quality treatment.

Stayed in the psych unit at this hospital. The staff was very unhelpful and incompetent. They dismissed my diagnosis of autism and misdiagnosed me themselves. They even gave me a medication that wasn’t compatible with my hormonal medicine. The building itself was disgusting as well. Not to mention how rude and dismissive their ER staff was. Take your chances and go to the next town over.

Took my adult son there on Thursday night. He was in excruciating pain and nauseated. Nurses were rude because he wouldn't lie still (he was hurting for heavens sake!).Did all kinds of tests. Lady came in for him to sign a paper he told her he had to throw up. She said sign this and I will get you a bag. He couldn't hold it and threw up everywhere. Didnt take her long to get the heck out of there. Nurses slammed door. Dr "I'm too-sexy-for-this-job-spikey hair" said oh he has acid reflux. Sent him home. 30 mins later I have him at another ER. Didnt take this doc long to do the same one big test figure out my son had a hernia the size of a cantaloupe. He needed emergency surgery. I'm thankful HKHs er doc listened to a mom who knew her son was sick because if this mom had listened to the rude staff at Shoals my child could have died. I have never been treated so disrespectful at Shoals as I my child and I were. ZERO concern. Too busy making jokes and looking at their phones. I DO.NOT RECOMMEND this er until it is RESTAFFED!°

The lady upfront told my mentally ill friend he had to pay $300 before he could leave. And when he said he couldn’t pay the full $300. She told him to get a job and there’s help wanted signs everywhere and then told him being autistic is no reason to not work . Was completely rude. When he stepped outside to grab his insurance card from his aunt. She came out screaming “ma”am you can’t be here.” When we told her we was just grabbing the card she said she didn’t care and that she had to leave. We called for her manager to come upfront and reported her. She then very snarky said “I apologize” and rolled her eyes. Plus they didn’t even check him out they just xrayed his hand and a man popped in and said you’re fine. When his hand is clearly messed up. And he was throwing up from the pain. Worst place I’ve ever been. These are the people we put our lives and health into.? Someone gets treated like this because they are autistic. Absolutely ridiculous. If you work in health care and can’t have any bed side or manner at all. Maybe you should check out these help wanted signs

I went in tonight with a very elevated heart rate that hadn't gone down all day (for hours). The staff got me right in, took my pulse and blood pressure and immediately informed me and another doctor that administered EKG, that I needed an EKG pronto. They were very fast with it and administered medication immediately to ensure my heat rate went down and monitored it to make sure it wouldn’t go up again. They made sure that to tell me that I made a good decision coming in when I did since that high of a rate could be fatal. The nurse, specifically, (her name is Joann) was so understanding, nice, and cool. Definitely recommend.
