Unfortunately I cannot go into full detail about this facility due to limits on review length. My child was recently admitted here. From arrival to discharge the communication with everyone (except for the day nurses) was extremely poor. I’ve been a nurse for 12 years and have never seen such poor communication as this place has. Escalating my concerns to the patient advocate was a joke as well. They do not coordinate proper treatment for after discharge, you will never be able to speak to a doctor, not even for questions regarding medications, you won’t even hear about a definite date of discharge until the day of, despite trying (from the day of admission) to get an idea of when that will happen. I am very disappointed that this is the mental healthcare we have available for our children. Please read the reviews, and even look up the news about this place. I wouldn’t send my daughter here again. There are very few staff that are helpful here.

Mrs. Angela was the sweetest staff ever and genuinely helped me get through my stay. Other staff was extremely rude and got mad when we asked for basic necessities like water, snacks, hygiene products etc… some staff just did not care about the patients and weren’t considerate. The art room was pretty good tho we made lots of fun crafts.

While my little sister was admitted here she was subjected to harassment from other patients and had witnessed multiple fights between patients and nursing staff. She tried to warn staff about a patient attempting suicide and after they ignored my sister the little girl killed herself in the shower the same day. Also I tried to call multiple times to ask about visitation and not once did someone even answer the phone. She also witnessed a nurse call a kid trash out of nowhere and since she had her gallbladder taken out she couldn’t eat what they served her and when she told the staff, they told her to starve.

the staff was very rude and we were forced to open up in group therapy which basically did nothing for us. there was no personal therapy there there was just a list of questions they would ask you, I had to lie to get out of there. not to mention they load up there patients with pills with no explanation to the patient. they would wake you up in the middle of the night to draw blood. the staff genuinely allowed fighting and treated the patients like monster. me personally I would never want to go back here. there was multiple occasions when talking to other patients on how they had been mistreated by staff not to mention how we never got alone time we were forced to be in there public room 24/7 we could never go in our rooms unless it was to shower or sleep which is a nightmare for kids with social anxiety. they did nothing to help there patients it was basically like a prison and a hotle mixed together. they were very inconsiderate of there patient's. do not send your kid here

This place is no good for anyone to be in. I’ve been trying to get my wife transferred back to Tyler, Tx but all they been doing is giving us a run around and we can’t even talk with the doctor or anybody else. We have asked several times to get her transferred and nothing has been done yet on getting her transferred. If things doesn’t change by Monday I’ll be calling our lawyer.

I was sent here about eight years ago and still to this day I am traumatized about the things that happened to me here. I was verbally abused. I was not allowed to go outside the entire time I stayed despite there being a playground and areas for us to go outside, nor were any of the other people in my unit allowed to go outside the whole time I stayed. I was only allowed one phone call right before I left the facility, and it was to call home. In the group activities we were forced to open up about traumatizing experiences and if we didn’t we were sent to our rooms with no contact with anyone and sometimes not allowed to eat until the next day. I was given meds that I had no idea what they were, I was only taking birth control upon coming to Riverview. I had to take several medications at this facility without talking to a doctor, that made me feel very weird while I was not told what they were. I urinated myself one night because of the medication and was forced to wear paper clothes for three days because they would not let me wash the only pair of pants that they had allowed me to wear from what my mom had brought me. I had people come into my room at random times throughout the night and wake me up at 2, 3, 4am to draw blood, give me more medication or to ask me odd questions. I wasn’t given soap when I took showers or toothpaste when I brushed my teeth, and being in a mixed unit kids would go into each others showers and have sex with each other. Kids would have mental break downs at the table in the main room where we all stayed and staff would only yell at them and yell at other patients to not talk to them or they would be in trouble. The staff would never help you and if anything they would make every situation worse. It was best not to talk to the staff if at all possible. I was told I was going to have a therapist and a doctor contact me the day I arrived and wasn’t contacted by either of them, only a therapist the day that I had left, three months later. I was placed in a class for schooling that was three grades above my grade level before coming to this place. After being out of this place for eight years there are a lot of things I don’t remember. But the things I do remember still traumatize me to this day nearly everyday. Do NOT send your children or anyone you care about here. They will not receive the help or care they deserve.

Their staff members assaults their patience physically. Talks mean and hateful to them. Don't try to call anytime bc no one ever answers. I called 40 times today. Horrible place
I now know why no one answers on unit 2. They have the ringer turned off.
That's how much they care about you speaking to your love one

This place is a damn joke I actually had a nurse asked me did I want the rope back that I removed from my shorts that I tried to hang myself with while in their custody. 9-11-2024. ( Needs to be closed and all employees need to be exposed so they cannot be hired in this profession anywhere else.) ROBERT WAYNE HAWTHORNE
