Dr. Johanna Russell is absolutely amazing to work with! I've seen many physical therapists over the years and haven't felt more comfortable or confident with my recovery plan than with Johanna. She's extremely knowledgeable and friendly, but also provides a personalized plan tailored to you. During our sessions I always know I have Johanna's full attention and if I have any questions in between sessions, she always makes herself available.

I have done both virtual and in-person physical therapy sessions and I highly recommended both! Bonus - the staff at Refresh Physical Therapy is amazing and booking appointments is always a breeze.

Dr Johanna is one of the best. She has been helping me recover from a shoulder surgery. She has been very patient with me and a huge aid in getting my motion and strength back. I would highly recommend getting at PT needs done by her!

I have been working with Johanna for about 3 years. Her insights, care and teaching have been critical as I dealt with an unclear knee injury. We worked together before, during and after the knee surgery. She takes a holistic approach and her methods and exercises really pay off. I highly recommend her as a outstanding professional and a wonderful person. Also, all people at Refresh are kind and work with you, they are on your team in times when you feel you can use the help.

I have chronic neck & shoulder pains that cause ongoing migraines but have been hesitant to go to PT because I’ve had very mediocre experiences in the past. Dr Russell (formerly Dr Ryan) changed that dramatically! She is an amazing listener and really seeks to understand your experience so that she can address it holistically. She’s super kind and also realistic about the amount of time most of us have to practice exercises at home - so she gives great practical advice on how to fit them in. I’m so glad I found her! I recommend her to anyone who will listen & she had helped many of my friends and family.

Johanna is the best in the business! I went to her originally with some knee pain as I began to train for the Boston marathon and began seeing her regularly as she got me back on track and pain free quickly. She truly cares for her clients and is a pleasure to visit each and every time. Couldn't recommend her highly enough!

I've been seeing Johanna off and on for a couple of years for running injuries and she has been amazing! She's incredibly knowledgeable and has been able to easily pivot as one running injury has turned into another, helping me fix each issue as it has cropped up. She's easy to get ahold of, patient, understanding, clearly cares about the outcome of her patients, and always has me laughing through our appointments. Can't recommend her enough!

This review is long overdue!

Last year I was lucky enough to get a bib number through team John Hancock for the 2019 Boston Marathon. This would be a first marathon for me. My training was going well until some point in December when I started having pretty bad pain in my left knee. I went to an orthopedist who told me to simply take two months off which meant I would most likely need to drop out.

Instead I sent an email to Dr. Ryan who immediately responded and made me an appointment. I visited her every week from that point on and she worked with me to incorporate strength training, stretching and foam rolling. She also had me do low-impact cardio that was in line with the amount of time I would spend running if I followed that particular week's mileage. After a few weeks I was able to slowly start running again. I had fallen behind in my training program but by the end I had caught up and my longest run was 20 miles.

I can confidently say that without Dr Ryan not only would I not have been able to finish the Boston Marathon but most likely I would have never made it to the starting line!

I finished the marathon with a time of 5:31 and it was indeed one of the most fulfilling days of my life! I am forever grateful for the amazing treatment that I received through Refresh Physical Therapy and Dr. Johanna Ryan!

Refresh PT - I can't endorse highly enough! I've seen a handful of other practitioners, and the difference was night and day.
Dr Ryan was exceptionally skilled, helping me stay active as a regular long-distance runner, now a beginner/intermediate marathoner. She's awesome!
She walked me through a careful program of learning and strengthening, helping me to understand how my injuries arose (classic runner's knees and achilles tendonitis), how they were inter-connected, and how a combination of strengthening, proper rest and foam-rolling would help keep me healthy.
I'd say she's a miracle worker, but that glosses over the more accurate telling: she taught me how to work hard at keeping my own body health. I didn't walk in injured and walk out better. I spent many weeks with dedicated exercises and learning, putting in regular hours of hard work. When I ran my first marathon, I had chronic pain -- now I am able to train regularly with rare issues. She taught me how to get there. It wasn't a quick fix, it was a root-cause, full healing and a growth experience.
Thank you, Dr. Ryan!
