I've been a therapist for 10 years. Don't.
If you're job hunting, look around.
4 of us have left/quit in a two month period. My heart goes out to the Salinas community. You all deserve far better, and therapists, you do too.

I am adding additional info below:
I want to provide a clear transparent insight into my own experience, as I believe as a social worker, it’s my duty. So here are some of the many concerns I faced while at this company:

- The owners push their own religion on the office, which is highly unprofessional and a clinical no-no (i.e. we were told we can’t decorate for Halloween because of the “owners’ religious beliefs” but each office had a Christmas tree, and we were encouraged to have a door decorating contest)

- The clinic is out of compliance with the insurance companies (the waitlist for clients is one YEAR to get services, but per the contract with medical insurance states that they have THREE MONTHS to get clients in for services, which obviously puts clients dealing with depression/suicide at high risk)

- For over a month the office did not pay it’s rent to the landlord (we were getting calls), didn’t have any toilet paper or pay the water bill.

- The offices were constantly at 80-90 degrees because the air conditioning was broken. This was reported weekly to the office manager and regional manager, but was never addressed. Clients would leave session, and we would be sweating throughout the day.

- There is NO work-life balance. The expectation was for clinicians to hold a caseload of 80+ clients (NORMAL is 40 at the most); but when communicated to higher-ups, clinicians were gaslit, blamed for not being able to “do their job”, or brushed off.

- The associates are expected to work full days and attend clinical supervision after work hours; additionally, there is no in-house clinical supervision or clinical director role.

- When issues were communicated to the office manager, they were brushed off, ignored, or (one occasion) the OM became upset, cussed at me and argued with me like we were in a toxic relationship for over an hour and shut down any productive discussion about the actual issue at hand.

- All but one person in the office had confided in me that they felt actively discriminated against because they were female, when this was brought up to the OM, he promptly blocked out people’s schedules to MAKE them talk to him about why they didn’t feel comfortable talking to him (unprofessional), yet when clinicians asked for mental health days or extra documentation time, it was consistently declined.

- When the clinical director was told about the concerns with the OM bringing personal drama into the office, she said “I choose not to believe that”

- Several people in the office also confided that they felt unable to share honest feedback for fear that they would be “scolded”, they reported being cussed at and leaving the office crying after meetings with the OM.

- The front office is directed to fill the schedule of providers, even on the same-day, if there is a cancellation, they will call clients and add them into any open break without consulting the clinician (outside of a lunch break). Documentation is expected to “take 3 minutes per note”, there is also no clinical consultation time in office, no additional admin time (unless you request accommodations, but HR pushes against those as well).

The plus side was the pay, the admin team and the in-person med providers and clinicians, all lovely people who do great work and created a wonderful team environment.

NAMH was fast and accommodating on needing services but when it came to medications needed that I've Safely takin for 37yrs., I'm told that they do not want to prescribe it due to the fact of other medications I take and given prescriptions for multiple other Meds That have so many bad side effects That made me sick and caused worse psychological effects.
It is not humane to make a person suffer psychological pain and suffering , especially when there is medication on the market that I have already been prescribed by County mental health and two other doctors that see me on a regular basis monthly for the last 30 plus years.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF GOING FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP THAT DOESN'T HELP YOU WITH A CHRONIC CONDITION WITH DOCUMENTATION AND PROVEN POSITIVE RESULTS AND THEN DENIED THE HELP?
