My son has A.D.H.D and speech, learning and processing issues. When I was trying to figure out what issues he had I went to dozens of specialists and, at the end of the day, I did not have a clear diagnosis or concrete plan of attack and I spent tens of thousands of dollars and I ended up back at square one. I truly felt like I was just being put through an assembly line of doctors and all of them just looked at me like a “pay-day” and they were not really interested in helping my son. Meanwhile, my son’s issues were getting worse and my frustration and guilt over not being able to help my son was devastating.
I was describing my frustration with the process to a personal friend and he suggested I see Dr. Valdes. So I made an appointment with Dr. Valdes and I know this may sound like a cliché but Dr. Valdes changed our lives. The first thing Dr. Valdes did was personally administer different tests to my son to pinpoint his issues. Then I sat down with Dr. Valdes and she explained to me all of her findings and conclusions. Dr. Valdes then put together a team of specialists that would communicate with each other on a uniform plan to address all of my son’s issues. She personally oversaw every step of the process and was constantly monitoring and getting feedback from the other specialists to make sure that we were progressing and addressing my son’s issues. I felt that with Dr.Valdes, I was no longer being passed around like a hot potato. I finally found someone who was truly invested in my son’s well-being as opposed to someone who was just interested in collecting a fee and shipping my son off to the next referral.
Today, my son is doing 100% better. His teachers at school say he is well behaved, sweet and an excellent student. In fact, whereas I use to have a tutor come to my house 4 days a week to help my son with homework and work on other skills my son has shown so much progress that he no longer needs a tutor. I will be forever grateful and indebted to Dr. Valdes for the quality of her work and the interest she took in helping my son.
