This review will be beyond a "5-Star" review for Vanessa Zampelli MS, RD, CSOWM, CDCES of the Mount Sinai-South Nassau-Diabetes Education Center. Vanessa is now my Certified Diabetes Educator and Nutritionist. She is an outstanding partner with my Diabetes Management and a wonderful educator and person on teaching me the all the intricacies of new Tandem T2-slim insulin pump.
My first impressions after several meetings at the Center were that upon entering the office, everyone makes you feel so welcome. It's like you're going into your own "Home" sort of speak and they are so positive and uplifting. Vanessa and everyone there make you feel like you've been a friend/patient for "49" years. This is how long I've had Type-1 Diabetes. "VZ" (as the fun nickname I often refer to her as) is friendly, well spoken, positive, and "smart" (way beyond just Diabetes Management, Nutrition and insulin pumps). She understands a variety complex neurological & physiological challenges as it relates to diabetes. Vanessa has a great (proactive), not reactive approach to solving many related medical issues. You feel her "passion" & goal that every patient gets the best care possible. She'll be with you "all the way to the finish line" and answer all of your questions.
My first visit involved us getting to know each other. She quickly adapted her recommendations to my overall Diabetes Management style/philosophy and then was able to help me achieve even better Blood Glucose control. From "minute one", I was confident that she was a great educator and was not worried about being so new to the practice. "VZ" is one of the best CDE's and nutritionists I've ever met and seen.
There is also a special way about everyone in the office and their warmth, care, and kindness makes you feel like a "million bucks". As a bonus, the office is also very neat, clean and comforting. I've taken really good care of myself and believe that being positive, knowledgeable and helping others is a great way to cope with this serious illness. This Education Center brings that belief to a whole another level. I highly recommend Vanessa and the entire staff at the SNCH-Mt Sinai Diabetes Education Center to anyone with Type1 or Type 2 Diabetes. They are all simply the best!!! Sincerely, Joseph M. Iavarone
