I went to this ER experiencing severe nausea, dehydration and inability to eat. It took over an hour for a bed to be ready, during which time I was in the lobby throwing up and peeing on myself. The other patients in the waiting room calmly moved to the other side. Seeing how distraught I was with no attempt from staff to help except walking out to the lobby to hand me a diaper, a stranger even bought me a Gatorade (which unfortunately I couldn’t drink). When I finally was called back and able to get into a bed, I was not set up with the call button and as soon as everyone left the room I began throwing up on myself. Without the call button, I weakly tried to call for help. When a nurse finally did come back in the room, she immediately snapped her gloves and told me, with the heaviest attitude, that I needed to “keep it down because there’s a lobby full of people”. I was covered in throw up and had been sitting in that and pee and that’s what she came in the room to say.

In order to ensure my care, I called 911 from the room and when they sent 2 police officers in to check me out, a nurse practioner and nurse very promptly showed up and began helping me.

Zero patient care, zero sympathy, and only 2 nurses on staff actually helped me.

It’s been 7 days and I’m still sick and unable to eat. Had they kept me longer for more observation and possible admission, I would’ve been better by now. Instead, they gave me a bag of fluids and rushed me out the door the same night.

Edited to add: the staff at the front desk had a good little laugh when I approached them to tell them what was wrong and they saw I was shaking uncontrollably.

I recently visited UAB-Hoover location and had the absolute best experience. Wait time....less than 10 minutes. The attendant that walked me to my room noticed that I was cold while taking my temp and my blood pressure. He offered to bring me a blanket. Not only did he bring a blanket, he brought back two heated blankets. He gave me the nurses buzzer and told me to let him know if I needed anything.

This all may sound simple, but I've been here several times but never experienced this level of kindness. No bad experiences but not service on this level. The kindness of the nurses, the X-ray Tech and the Nurse Practitioner were A++. My only regret is that I was too sick to remember names. Great job to those that worked on 8/20/24 @ 11:00 a.m.

I had the worst experience and will never consider coming to this ER ever again! My 8 yr old daughter had a laceration on her wrist which was very deep! We got to the ER at 5 pm! We got called back into triage at 6 pm! They took a quick glance and sent her back to waiting room. They did not provide any medication for her pain and didn’t even take the T-shirt I wrapped her hand in off until she had to get an x-ray at 8pm. Which the X-ray tech was friendly enough to put some gauze on it! Then when we were finally put in a room at 10/11pm were told they could not assist her and she would need to go to a children’s hospital!! I then had to ask them if they could please give her something for the pain and finally they did! All the nurses that assisted were not kid friendly and rude! I believe my daughter was neglected care! I understand that this is not a children’s hospital, it was the closest hospital to us at the time and the worst decision I have made! I feel there are things that could’ve been done differently and this hospital failed in so many ways! It took 6 hours for them to tell us they could not help her, it took 3 nurses and 2 doctors to realize that they’re weren’t capable of giving my daughter any alleviation with her injury! As a parent I am very frustrated with this ER and for parents who may consider bringing their child to this ER, be aware that they may not be able to help your child and consider going to a children’s hospital then waiting hours just to be referred elsewhere!

Came to the ER because my toddler was having trouble breathing and was advised by my pediatrician to bring her. We were brought back right away, no waiting. She was triaged and the doctor saw her within 20 minutes of arriving. Her treatment began shortly after that. Was kept informed the whole time and all the nurses dealt with her so gently and spoke calmly and nicely to her. It was the best experience I could have asked for.

I cut the side of my index finger to the bone and AFC was not comfortable sewing it up and suggested I go here. Real nice place & could tell they were on their game. Was only there for an hour & they fixed me up with supplies & everything I needed. Everyone was so nice & I actually had fun. I think I’ll cut myself on purpose next time just so I can go back to hang out with them again. Jk- but gee… I really liked all them guys over there. It was nice & now I’m back to work. This experience says great place!

I went to this ER last week for a 3 day long migraine that increasingly worse. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. The nurse that triaged me didn't tell me my heart rate or BP, I had to look at the machine myself. My top number was 173; which is alarmingly high and nothing was said about it. My nurse Angela was very nice and comforting. Dr Patel saw me and treated my migraine. However, no imaging was done and no one told me what labs were drawn, just that they were normal. I'm glad my migraine was treated, but I feel like communication could be better.

Went in with my 4 year old on Sunday evening for a chin laceration and ended up with 4 stitches. All of the staff was so great! We were in a room within about 10 minutes, and everyone was so kind to my little one. Calypso, Sarah, and Victoria did the stitches and were so very helpful and good with kids. The whole experience did take a few hours, but we were checked on within a timely manner, and cared for.
