This man is way too old to be practicing medicine. His office never returns phone calls or picks up the phone. He still operates his office like it’s 1985. He uses a fax machine to communicate with a world that no longer has one. The frustration level in dealing with his office is beyond anything you can imagine. Do not go here

Terrible experience. Made an appointment and waited for 2 months and my appointment was cancelled a wk prior to the appointment. I was never able to get a hold of the Dr not the office. Called many times, no answer and not getting back anyhow.

Avoid at all cost. I have never had such impossible medical care in my life. They never answer the phones and do not call back voicemails, making it near impossible to make an appointment. Should you need quick care, absolutely forget about it. I've calle every day for the past week--no response. They have no email or web presence, so everything needs to be done via fax and snail mail, making things like referrals an absolute nightmare an a weeks' long, drawn out process. This office needs to be shut down. I would give zero stars but it won't let me.

Very old school doctor, but that's good. He asks great questions and follow-ups. I felt I wasn't rushed and even at the end he asked if there was anything I wanted to add or say or any questions. Pleasant staff too. His office is on the top floor of the medical building at Century Park East and Olympic. They don't validate but you can park on Spaudling for free in Beverly Hills and take a 7 minute walk up the hill. Otherwise it's $22 for the first two hours to park in the garage.

I've been a patient of Dr. Hauptschein since 2007, care started in the ER of Cedars-Sinai; a younger physician had assessed me & concluded I needed to have a pacemaker inserted immediately - Dr. Hauptschein "corrected" the other Dr. & immediately admitted me to ICU & treated for pneumonia. His care has been stellar, later referring me to a Cardiologist, Dr. Ivor Geft. Following up on concerns I had, Dr. Hauptschein scheduled MRI & 🐈 scan...the professionals, who read these things found NOTHING to be concerned about...HOWEVER DR. HAUPTSCHEIN VIEW THE RESULTS & SENT ME BACK FOR TESTING...(HE SUSPECTED I HAD A THORACIC AORTIC ANEURYSM)...THE SECOND TEST CONFIRMED - Dr. Hauptschein, referred me to Dr. Alfredo Trento, the aneurysm at that point was a +3.

One day, as I was waiting to be seen, a gentleman sat next to me, whose GP, had retired, he asked about Dr. Hauptschein, I remarked, he discovered a medical condition other missed for years, called Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm...the gentleman gasp saying, "ma'am, they generally don't discover those until post mortem" - I shivered. The aneurysm is now +4 (my entire childhood & teen years were those of stress & abuse, both physical & emotional - & my body has paid the price) - Dr. Hauptschein also discovered I had a multi-nodular goider & referred me to Dr. Nazemi, who's also private practice, with privileges at Cedars-Sinai...
I could go on praising Dr. Hauptschein & all the wonderful 'specialists' he has referred me to, but time would not allow...
And HE may be old (as one chided in the forum) - but he has over come childhood physical challenges & gone on to be, not only a great physician, but a most wonderful human being. He even knows how to give a patient, like me, a 'reality check' when I'm making jokes & not taking things seriously. On July 2, 2017, I presented in Cedars ER once again - a nurse who was monitoring to "go home"...caught something, and remarked, "do you feel that" - I said. Feel what? She said, "you're not going anywhere"... called in Dr. Hauptschein, Dr. Ivor Geft & Dr. Nazemi...the 3 of them pow-wowed & discovered I had severe Afib, I was hospitalized for a week... Later Dr. Geft would discover, not only my heart problem, but most of my existing physical problem, stemmed from my thyroid ... I thank my Lord God in heaven who placed these wonderful people in my life, they are my "Dream Team" & my ultimate Dr., Dr. Jesus πŸ™‚ - gave Dr. Hauptschein to me...as a wonderful gift.

PS, his staff has never been rude, they generally don't have time for small talk...pay CLOSE ATTENTION TO DETAIL & AVOID DISTRACTIONS, so there will not be any errors, Dr. runs a tight ship & loves & regards his team...and one of his staff had horrible concern for herself & the family she loved...because she almost died... please don't JUDGE folks when you see them for a "miniscule fraction" in time...
WE ALL HAVE OUR POO POO moments & are not flawless!! Right?

Dr. Hauptschein is a man with a good heart. He truly listens to his patients and does not rush them or make them feel rushed. This review is long- overdue but I cannot let the chance slip without leaving him a good review since he saved my wife from further pain and misery due to shingles. On Oct. 22, 2021, I rushed my wife to the Urgent Care of Olive View-UCLA Hospital, due to an atypical rush on her left eye that caused severe pain and difficulty in opening her left eye and left side of her head. Given that my wife has a rare eye disease (Terrien's Marginal Degeneration on both eyes), this made the situation more difficult that is why an intern from the opthalmology department was also sent to the Urgent Care to check on her. However, the one from the opthalmology department insisted with absolute certainty that the rash was not shingles that is why my wife was just sent home without any prescription despite of her condition and was just told to see the opthalmologist on Nov. 5th (as if her condition does not warrant urgent care). Good thing, Dr. Martin Hauptschein prescribed antivirals for my wife, cause if not my wife could have gone blind if the shingles had spread or worsened and was not treated immediately. Good thing, the good judgment and sense of urgency of Dr. Hauptschein saved my wife's vision from shingles.
If not for him, it could have spread internally to her left eye which is dangerous especially that she has an eye disease. Thank you very much, Dr. Hauptschein. Your genuine concern for your patients is very much appreciated!

Very incompetent. Do NOT see this doctor. He is very older so he moves very slow. His front desk staff is rude and unprofessional. Staff never answer the phone and no not follow-up for appointments. I switched doctors in early September 2021 was told I could not get an appointment until November 4, 2021 despite having an immediate medical need. On November 4, 2021 I was told I did not have an appointment that I could be reschedule for a later date. I won't be coming back.

Great Doc with good bedside manner. He is personable and is invested in his patient's health. I have had good experiences with Dr. Hauptschein but will say his staff is subpar. I have had many issues with getting referrals, prescriptions etc. They dont seem to facilitie things for the patients as one would expect. I am a health care provider myself and know that having efficient staff is equally as important as having a good doctor.
