I need to give an honest review of Dr. Cano, and also a woman named Misty at the Resident's clinic, because trying to get help for my nonverbal level 3 autistic 14 year old son has been nothing short of a nightmare while dealing with these 2 individuals.
We have been trying to get an AAC device for my son through NAU since early spring. We had a lot of paperwork (from school, caseworkers, diagnosis paperwork, family, and, of course, doctors!) that needed to be filled out in order to do this application. I did take my son to Dr. Cano one time last year for a different issue, and he was very dismissive and seemed uninterested in what I had to say about what I suspected was happening with my son at that time. He didn't really want to help, which is frustrating, since my son is unable to speak, as his parents, we are trying to advocate for his needs. This was my first experience with Dr. Canoe.
The next issue that I ran into began in the middle of this past summer, while trying to fix any issues on that application for the AAC device, I received an email stating that there was a form from the Resident's clinic that needed the attending's signature, but had the resident's signature from all that paperwork that we had filled out. So, since we had gotten the paperwork done there, it seemed like it should be simple enough to have them CORRECT their mistake. I asked the individuals at NAU to please fax this form to the resident's clinic and surely they would sign it and send it back. However, when I called the clinic to explain this to them, I had to explain it to about 3 people, and they all seemed very confused. Finally, I spoke to "Misty". She seemed to understand what was going on, but for some reason wanted me to make a NEW appointment for paperwork which THEY needed to correct. Please keep in mind, my son a big boy, and strong, and if he is overstimulated he can be violent. And to be honest, the doctors office isn't always his favorite place. So taking him to an extra appointment that is not necessary isn't high on the list of preferred activities for anyone in this family. I tried my best to explain and stress this to Misty; she said that she spoke with Dr. Cano, and that Shane would need to be seen in order to get this form signed. She said that he said the they need "current" information. I told her that it doesn't need to be current, because that application was done in spring, and all of the information on the application from EVERYONE is from that time period, but to no avail. I said because it has been a fight trying to get this application done and I'm worried that it will not be finished in time and we will have to start over if things keep dragging out, and Dr. appointments are usually booked out for months, to which she sweetly replied, " I know, that's why I've got you an appointment on this Friday at four, okaayyy?" So we took the appointment, since it was only 2 more days. My husband and I both took my son to the appointment, because some days it really does take two of us to handle him. When we took my son back, we found the appointment with with some other random doctor. When we told them it was supposed to be with Dr. Cano, they said, "He's not here, he never is on Fridays," I was pretty mad. I asked to talk to Misty, but shock of all shocks, she wasn’t there either, and it finally occurred to me that she LIED to me, and booked a 4pm Friday appointment because she didn’t want to deal with me anymore, and she wanted to make sure she wasn't there when we came in. I took my son out to the car because I was too upset to speak, and my husband rescheduled the appointment, which has bumped us back out nearly another month from that time. The appointment is next week, but I'm going to reach out to KRMC and send them this information. I'm hoping to get a patient advocate.

So this was I believe my third visit to Dr Porter. My general practitioner of 5 years died from Lou Gehrig's disease Dr Gerald West in Fort Mohave Arizona. The disease took his life in a year. We were actually good friends we fished together we rode Harleys together and that really sucks. F cancer F Lou Gehrig's disease. Anyways Dr Porter obviously listened or looked over my records of every injury surgery pathology medication that I've been on or I'm suffering from or trying to cure. He's definitely he appears younger I'm 59 . it appears he's found God's purpose the sky is the limit for this man. caring compassionate listens was in no rush at all did not rush me out I've been rushed out of doctor's offices before maybe they have a tee time or they're behind on their schedule but I've never suffered that disrespect with Dr Porter. in fact nothing but respect and we meet in the middle on several issues he is the authority make no mistake about it and I believe in being proactive so I think he understands that it came down to I might have a semi allergy to a couple medications and I told him quite honestly I haven't been taking this or I only been taking that when it gets really bad and he understood I was expecting to get chastised and we're going to move forward and if it doesn't work we will try something new and what else can I ask for what else can any patient ask for five stars all the way I'd give him 10 if I could and I forget the clerk's name but the clerks are also second to none couldn't be happier thank you Dr Porter

I just don't understand why you keep taking new patients if you do not even have space or time for them. Takes literally months to get an appt. And if you get sick, they have no emergency openings. They do not put back a slot of time to see their sick patients. They send them to a 4 hour wait at urgent care. Seems kind of pointless to have a doctor.

I recently visited the clinic to meet the Resident assigned as my PCP.
This did not go well. She questioned the need for a certain medication I was taking
Advised her I have appointment with Cardiologist 1st week in November. A few days later she called me to say she had done research and spoken to some Cardiology friends and based on this she was removing my medication. This is totally unacceptable, I want to be removed from her service....
