I'm very impressed with the level of care and empathy received at the Neurology Dept here. Dr. Connie Wu is so personable and wonderfully professional. Before moving on to any new topic, she would always check to see if I had any questions. She was totally focused on me and my needs and there was never any sense of being rushed through the exam. I really appreciate that. I should add that this isn't unique to this dept or facility. I've also been treated at San Mateo and RWC and always had a positive experience from the providers there.

First time meeting Dr Winnie Tong. She was great. Knowledgeable and caring. She listened attentively and answered all my questions. We discussed pros and cons of my going forward or not with the considered procedure. She did not attempt to pressure me one way or the other. I did not feel rushed. I felt heard and respected. Great addition to the South San Francisco campus and my care team.

I was in a lot of pain on Friday and spent from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM trying to get an appointment to see a doctor. When I finally did, for 6:50 PM that night, it was then cancelled at 6:00 because the doctor didn't come in to work and there was no one to cover. It was rescheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM. When I saw the doctor, I was told that it didn't matter if my rib was bruised or cracked, because the treatment was the same in either case - nothing can be done so just take painkillers. I was then sent on a long, painful walk to Radiology, followed by another painful walk to the pharmacy, which had not received the order from the doctor. I waited for an hour and a half, still in much pain, of course, while the pharmacy staff tracked down the doctor and got her approval to process the order she had neglected to put through. In addition to her lack of empathy or help, and her neglecting to put through the medication order; she also neglected to call me with the results of the x-ray, as promised. Ever. What could have been done differently?
1.) Have enough staff that if a doctor doesn't show up for work, patients don't have to continue to suffer waiting longer to see one.
2.) If a patient is in pain, and has to be sent all over the campus, a little help in a wheelchair would minimize further suffering.
3.) Train your doctors to be as empathetic and proactive as your non-medical staff is. As usual, the service from Radiology and from the Pharmacy was excellent. The doctor was clearly being kept from something else she would rather have been doing.

If you like waiting: to park your car, seeing your doctor, or getting lab work. Go to Kaiser. I'm waiting with my 88 year old mother for 3 hours just for lab work. There are people waiting in the hallway because there is not enough seats in the waiting room. Why trust your life to these idiots?

My doctor was very thorough and friendly when asking me questions and answering my concerns. It would've been a perfect experience if the appointment started on time instead of 15 mins later. The receptionist lady and nurse were all so kind and friendly. I was also able to get my meds inside the building even though they were closing, the ladies at the pharmacy were also very nice. The nurse that helped me withdraw my blood was professional and efficient, it didn't hurt and the whole process was done in a blink of an eye. Overall it was a smooth first visit at Kaiser for me and I appreciate all these ladies very much for being so professional and kind.

Where do I start! A month and a half worth of blowing off concerns and questions about procedures, and whether procedures were right or needed before doing, missed things and mistakes. ER staff, twice, doesn't listen blows people off told had allergy didn't listen, caused kidney damage 1st time. 2nd time husband, who can't talk, they took in by himself, wouldn't let me go to tell what was going on and about allergies the first time there, after I got in about an hour and a half later noticed they cut his allergy band off, said "oh he has an allergy band" When admitted staff doesn't like questions on what is being done and why, what meds, because they dont know. Drs have them use equipment they don't know how, in icu, after Drs leave for home. CRRT dialysis machine at night no Drs around to oversee. When the filter cartridge warning goes off. Nurse just keep hitting the override button. Two cartridges clot never ordered heparin with it like ordered in with his dialysis, known. Set iv med at .5 instead of .05. Norepinephrine! After that, high heart rate. Put him on another med 4 that! Is this a nurse training school? Write everything down, take pictures. Have some really great Drs., but the staff! Do not get admiited or have anything major done here. If a family member gets stuck here, make sure there is someone they know with them at all times, and yes they do let you stay all night. Just a clinic. Or a nurses in training facility.
I will definitely add alot more at a later time. Just a little note I'm writing now as the nurse is trying to kick me out early because she doesn't want to work and doesn't want anyone to see. We asked too many questions, kept telling her husband was on med, she kept saying he wasn't. Then, "oh yeah, I guess he is" .
A blood pressure med. Which she kept denying, getting him all upset and wanting to leave. Which he can't because in icu.

I receive excellent care at the SSF Kaiser from all my doctors. I feel heard and cared for. The location is convenient, my primary physician is excellent, and the specialists are great. Because KP is a well run HMO, the docs can focus on the medicine.
