Hospice East Bay is an unbelievable group of angels on earth. All of the visiting nurses and on-call nurses, including Elena, Razel, Monique, were top notch. Jeanine the music therapist was a joy, and Atawa, the social worker on the care team was very effective. Aftercare consultation with Kathy was also helpful.
In sum, the entire team went above and beyond to provide a caring, peaceful ending to my sister's life and support to those who cared for her in our home in her final days. They made an effort to read her case carefully, get to know her and the family and adjust their care to best fit our needs. They were highly sensitive and caring. Their pharmacy service was also fantastic. Medications were delivered promptly, often by private same-day courier or overnight delivery.

We have been so blessed to have the folks at Hospice of the East Bay available to assist in caring for my wife Lynne these past few months. Unfortunately, she succumbed to late stage Alzheimer’s on December 5. The care shown to her, especially in her last days by Karen (RN) and Jeanine (Music Therapy) was above and beyond expectations. And Holly (Aftercare) was a tremendous help and solace to me as I mourned Lynne’s passing and was faced with so many loose ends. Thank you all so much for your excellent caring service!

The challenges for a person dealing with the terminal illness and ultimate death of a spouse are enormous and complicated by the emotional issues involved. The East Bay Hospice organization supplied critical medical services and advice. They exceeded my expectations and I am eternally grateful for their service. The staff at Bruns House were wonderful.

Having a family member face the end of life is difficult. Being supported by the staff of Hospice East Bay helped us through that process during my husband's illness and final days. They offered support in so many ways - including physical, emotional, spiritual and practical. All of the professionals were not only skilled in their area of expertise but offered the empathy and kindness that can mean so much during this time. We appreciated not only the medical (nurses) and physical (home care staff) but also the social worker, chaplain and music therapist, all of whom seemed to come just at the moment when we needed them most. We have already benefited from the support that is provided after the death which included bereavement services as well as the after-care discussions to help manage the myriad of financial issues that need addressing. We will be forever grateful to everyone at Hospice East Bay.

Every single person there was so kind and supportive. I was a mess and they just listened and helped us. They are truly doing what they do as a calling. Empathic and oh so helpful. After my husband died they even had an estate planner help me to figure out all the details. They even called SS office with me. You simply cannot find a better hospice.

I wish I could leave ZERO stars!
Don’t use this hospice. They misinform you. They lie when you sign up. They make it difficult to transfer to another hospice. They treat people horribly at the very time when you are losing your loved ones and are very vulnerable.

Hospice of East Bay will bait and switch you - do not trust them.

For some reason John Muir Hospital recommends them but don’t trust the recommendation - it will send you to the worst hospice experience imaginable.

Make a few phone calls to several hospices and interview them and find one that fits your family and provides exceptional care that you and your loved ones deserve at this difficult time

This is what you should ask before you hire a hospice agency:
1. How many visits per week will a nurse visit the patient (good hospices send a nurse at least once per week and extra visits if needed)
2. How many visits per week will a nursing aide / home health aide visit the patient and help with activities of daily living (good hospices do at least 3 visits per week and the best hospices do more)
Believe me when I say - as someone who has been through this - the more visits and help you can get from your hospice team, it will give your loved one and your family more comfort, care and peace during this difficult time.

Don’t settle for a hospice that doesn’t go the extra mile.

So please avoid Hospice of East Bay because they do as little as possible.
