First impressions may be good but it’s the follow through that counts. I have used Hospice three times and Haven Hospice is by far the worse. Basic supplies such as diapers are “supplementary”, not provided as needed as other Hospices do. Haven reluctantly provides 1 pk. of 16 diapers per week. That’s less than 3 diapers per day. Not enough for vital skin care for patients confined to bed.
A pressure relief pillow promised for my husband 2 weeks before his death was ordered 2 days before he died and never put to use. A call I made at 9 in the morning to request supplies, went unanswered for 4 hours. The phone rang for a long period and switched to voice before ringing again. I expected to hear a live voice at the other end. I even went to their office only to find no one there and the door locked. Everyone was at a meeting in Gainesville. In the end, when my husband needed 24hr. care to administer meds, Haven was unable to provide that care until 8pm the next day; 27 hrs. later. Fortunately, Sandcastle Home Care, an agency I employed for extended care, came within 1 hour after calling.
My advice to anyone seeking Hospice care to ask questions and shop around. It’s worth the extra effort.
