The Gender Health Center is welcoming and friendly. I appreciate that the counselors here made an effort to meet me where I was at, and worked with me on my own timeline. I have struggled to get gender affirming healthcare, but the staff here empathized with my situation and gave me useful resources to get proper medical care. If you are overwhelmed trying to navigate the social, legal, and medical aspects your transition, I would definitely reach out to the the Gender Health Center. I was feeling lost and didn't even know what help I wanted or needed but I just decided to give it a try. I was surprised that the counselors took the time to learn about my situation and gave me options to move forward with my transition. Thanks!

I needed information on how to get gender affirming surgeries covered by my insurance. This isn't something most people just happen to know, calling my insurance didn't help, and looking it up on Google didn't give me any answers either. With a few emails and text messages with the people at Gender Health Center they told me everything I needed to know and more. If I run into any problems with getting coverage they offered to set me up with a non-profit attorney organization, free of charge to help get me covered. If I have any other questions related to my transition I'll contact them again, and I'd recommend anyone else with similar questions do the same.

I called this place to get help with changing my legal name as a part of my transition. I met with Liza and she and the other great people here helped me sort it out and sent some of the documents for me. I got my drivers license, social security name and birth certificate updated. Thank you for making this process easier!!!!

I've been utilizing their services ever since I could no longer afford private health insurance AND pay for gender affirming care. A lot is changing (hopefully for the better). Gender Health is becoming integrated into general healthcare (as it should imo) and GHC has helped fill in A LOT of the holes. As a not for profit institution I genuinely think they are trying their best with the little funding they receive. Gender non conforming folks need as much help as we can get; especially with this resurgence of targeted hate speech and bigotry coinciding with our election cycles. Their approach to care and services is trauma informed and intersectional. I have been able to reclaim so much of myself and grow thanks to them, and I hope everyone (re)starting their own journeys, will find them as helpful as I have. Thanks!

I'm a pretty patient person and I've never felt the need to leave a bad review on anything before, but I've grown pretty tired after getting thrown under the bus 3 consecutive times by these people.
First, I called and scheduled an appointment with them to discuss counseling services. It took me about 2 hours to drive there, only to be greeted by the person at the front desk seeming confused, not knowing that I had an appointment. They brought out the person I was scheduled with who looked at me and was just like "Oh..." No explanation. They set me up to see someone else rather than who I was scheduled with. This person said they would email me with some info and gave me a date for when I would receive that email.
Nothing.
I emailed them wondering what was going on, and they told me that things may have gotten mixed up due to some of the interns leaving and having new ones coming in. Fair enough, I can understand that. After a little discussion we set up a date and time for a phone call to further discuss things.
Again, nothing.
This place is supposed to provide counseling services for LGBTQ+ folks. I never expected that such a place would make someone feel so hopeless in their journey. So at this point I've decided to not waste anymore of my time with this place.

2 stars because the people I met there were pretty nice, and my appointment didn't feel rushed despite the mix up. Otherwise, please get more organized and keep your word when you set up appointments.

Best place for LGBTQQIA+-affirmative advocacy, therapy, and mental health services. The center however is open to serve all people. Affordable low-cost sliding scale fees. Great staff. Great clients/community-members. Very flexible and will work to meet your needs as best as possible.

The place does fill a significant need for the trans community of Sacramento. However, it's not the ideal place to get such services. The therapy is done by interns which are in my experience not that well trained and didn't ultimately help me in my core issues. Getting a proper experienced gender therapist is better. The hormone services don't include hormone testing and don't include close supervision and access to a doctor. I was unsatisfied with the hormone clinic and I eventually got access to Kaiser's TG services, which I felt was significantly better. Respite is a good place to go but only has one staff member, and doesn't always have friendly people to talk to. Certain smaller services have or haven't been helpful to me. People here work hard but I wish there was a higher standard of services and perhaps more professionalism.
