The intake coordinator was deeply disrespectful. I have VAST experience of entities who contract with Medi- cal and from experience I know when I am being pathologized Many people who enter . READ.. MOST , especially those who are contracted with public systems.. are trauma based personalities whose status allows them to transfer their trauma without restraint. She said and did nothing outrageous, but her manner of controlling, not listening and devaluing , though subtle , rang super familiar. People are not pawns to be managed and when you screen someone and ask them the same question more than once you are calling them a liar . In general, this field thinks too much of themselves and too little of others. There is an idealization of the world and a devaluation of human reality. In a nutshell , this is what I experienced . And because I share that problem , I thought I'd through some of that devaluation back at you. I wanted to see Jon Stenson whom I saw extensively in his prior job but I see the pattern repeating itself of supplicating and also magistring trauma based client tragically heroic rescuing/abandoning judging and I compensating accomodation of the trauma based clinician
I like Jon a great deal but his proxy shown through his deep resentment of mental illness, his idealistic escapism, and ambivalence. I didn't come to be devalued or to be a self object.
I came to get beyond all that .

With years supervising Dr. Gonzalez (or "Doctor Mica" as he's often affectionately called), I can confidently say he's a superb, sensitive, deft psychologist. Some therapists are smart; some are warm; some are well-spoken. Mica is all three of these things and more. His combination is truly rare: sophistication about theory and research, a manner that is likable and down-to-earth, plus the language to communicate it all with playfulness and effectiveness for both children and adults. I feel certain that if you reach out to Mica, you'll be glad you did.

I can highly recommend Mica Gonzalez to anyone seeking help as a parent of young children. I’ve not met a more thoughtful and insightful clinician in the field. As a colleague working alongside Dr. Gonzalez closely for several years, I have seen first hand how he connects with both children and parents and creates a therapy environment that feels safe and comfortable right off the first meeting. Always professional, but never dry, kids connect quickly with his humor and playfulness. Caregivers appreciate experiencing progress early on, and you’ll always feel well-informed and a partner in the process. Dr. Gonzalez provides culturally sensitive care that is always rooted in up-to-date research and practice.
I frequently consult with him on challenging issues, and my practice has greatly benefited from his insights.
I would no doubt turn to him if and when I need help with a parenting challenge.

As a clinical psychologist and colleague it's my great pleasure to highly recommend Dr. Mica Gonzalez as a psychotherapist for both children and adults. Throughout our more than a decade professional trainings and consultation time together, Mica’s experienced, sensitive, personalized, relational approach to helping patients has been evident. He is skilled in his work with children and their families. This shows from his extensive knowledge in child development and parenting, his natural ability in connecting with children and parents, and all the impressive comments I heard from people referred to him. He is also an excellent therapist for adults and couple work. He is easy to talk to, compassion, grounded, and at the meantime sharp and insightful. His capacity to hold difficult and big emotions makes his adept at working with intense issues such as grief, loss and trauma. His professional knowledge and exceptional therapeutic relationship skills makes his the ideal therapist for anyone ready to make changes and grew in their lives. I feel confident in recommending and referring patients to him.

I was referred to Family Spring by a social worker from Alameda County. I had been unemployed for a long period of time, was having trouble with severe isolation, trust issues, and CPTSD from history of trauma, and was on MediCal so my options for psychotherapy were incredibly limited, but an opening for a weekly web video appointment opened at Family Spring that took my insurance and I thought it was something positive. I was always on-time to my appointments, courteous, and respectful, but on my 4th appointment I was told by my therapist that she didn’t think it was a good fit for her and that she could “send me some links” about where I could go to find another therapist. Considering my stated issues from the outset were trust and isolation issues, I’m not sure I can ever trust a therapist again after this. Still waiting on the links to be emailed.

I highly recommend Dr. Mica Gonzalez. Mica and I worked with parents and their children ages 0-5 years old. As a colleague of many years, I was always amazed how well he connected with children and their families in a way that was non-judgmental, strength-focused and collaborative. Mica is passionate about his work and meets people "where they are."

Thank you Dr. Himelstein for being a phenomenal clinician in the field! I highly recommend Dr. Sam Himelstein as a clinician and/or consultant. Having worked with Sam and referred him clients, I feel very confident sending anyone in his direction for support. He is caring, compassionate, authentic, honest, collaborative, and most of all passionate. He loves his work and it shows. His work with teens around substance use using Mindfulness as the intervention has been cutting edge. I have run youth programs and use his curriculum for our groups. If you are lucky enough to come across Family First Psychotherapy in your search for clinical support, you will be in good hands. Thank you Sam for your passion and vision!

Raina Lawler was absolutely amazing with my kids this past year. I don't think I would have survived distance learning without her! She is cool, calm and collected at all times. As well as creating a safe space for my kids to thrive she also helped them deal with big feelings and was successful with various behavior modifications. I would highly recommend her.
