Our experience with ExpectCare Hospice was truly a blessing during one of the most difficult times in our lives. From the very beginning, we felt supported and cared for. I’ll never forget the liaison who came to the hospital and knelt to be eye-level with me as I sat in tears beside my mother on the palliative care unit such a simple gesture, but it meant so much.

The admitting nurse who came to get everything started was thorough and kind, helping us feel a sense of peace during such a confusing and emotional time. We even met an educator by coincidence during a routine nurse check-off, and every person we encountered reflected the same care and compassion.

Chaplain Fred has been such a gift truly an anointed man who walks with the light of Christ. He has kept in touch with us before, during, and even after my mom’s passing. His presence and continued support through group grief counseling have brought comfort to our family.

The nurse who came to pronounce my mom’s passing was gentle, respectful, and professional. She stayed with us as long as we needed but gave us space when it was time, a balance I didn’t even know I needed until I experienced it.

Even after everything, ExpectCare didn’t stop caring. We received follow-up calls about grief services, and were reminded that their support continues well beyond the moment of loss. They even have a social worker available to help with end-of-life planning something we hadn’t considered but appreciated deeply.

We never thought we’d need hospice care my mom was so strong and full of life, we couldn’t imagine her needing this type of service. But when the time came, ExpectCare was there for us in every way possible. They thought of every little thing, including things we never could’ve anticipated. We are so thankful for their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering support.

I originally was not going to leave a review - as they say, if you have nothing nice to say , say nothing at all- but after further consideration I feel
compelled to share my experience with anyone considering this hospice service .
Caring for the elderly and dying is clearly a calling and those with this calling are truly a blessing . But those that take these positions for the wrong reasons can leave you with horrible memories . There is one nurse in particular there that should NOT be employed in the healthcare industry . She would NOT be questioned, with her ā€œknow it allā€ attitude , and was rude and abrupt when asked questions. She simply did not want to be bothered , especially if it were 3 minutes after her shift was over . I ran out of meds that she was responsible for ordering and her response when i called was to ā€œcall the after hours number ā€œ.
There was an occasion when she told me that mom’s lungs were clear and they clearly were not - it was obvious she was very sick . The weekend nurse came out , found it hard to believe that Nurse Jennifer would say this and then prescribed antibiotics and a nebulizer with steroids. Another time , Moms diaper was full of brownish red blood. When she came out , she implied that it was something we all staged to create a reason for her not to discharge her . I called the supervisor who sent out another nurse - and this haunts me to this day- who examined my mothers private area , poking around looking for some small blister that Nurse Jennifer had said could have caused the bleeding . Mom had Alzheimer’s but she still deserved to be treated with dignity . She resisted but the second nurse was adamant about examining her , to no avail, leaving a bruise on her leg from holding her legs apart. She was on Eliquis and easy to bruise , but still, so unnecessary . There are more terrible stories but maybe the hardest to believe was when she stated that Mom had gained weight and had planned to discharge her . She was bedridden so we could not weigh her but rather they gaged weight gain by an arm measurement . She recorded that her arm measurement was 22 CM - I was listening to her conversation with my caregiver , unbeknownst to her , and when she left I went downstairs and measured moms arm , snapped a pic and sent it to her , asking her what was I doing wrong bc my measurement was 17 cm. Mom was around 75 lbs and she had not gained weight but rather had lost weight based on actual measurement compared to few weeks prior . She called me and told me that ā€œI needed helpā€ at which time I disallowed her back in my home . In previous visits when she was here , I had heard her ask my caregivers questions about me that had absolutely nothing to do with her job or taking care of Mom. Just unprofessional and often disrespectful to my lady caregivers . They all found her condescending. She loved what authority she thought she had over you by having the authority to discontinue hospice care.
When Mom was discharged by Expectcare , based on Norse Jennifer’s evaluation , UAB Housecalls immediately called another hospice service after they evaluated her, agreeing that she was too sick for their service and needed to be on hospice . My Mom passed away shortly thereafter . I look back and find it incredibly hard to stomach that I had to endure this during what already was a stressful and difficult time but more than anything , my bedridden Mom didn’t get the care she deserved.

Management was very helpful. ExpectCare helped my family tremendously. I seriously couldn't have asked for better people to help with my loved one. I recommend them to anyone who needs in-home hospice care! The employees went above and beyond to make sure our family had the adequate resources to make the transition easiest as possible!

I highly recommend Expect Care to anyone needing Hospice Care. They took care of my husband and everyone that we dealt with was outstanding. They were very professional, compassionate, kind, caring, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. I felt they went above and beyond to do everything we needed and provide any assistance we needed. They were always there if we needed extra assistance and there very quickly. I have recommended Expect Care to many friends and everyone that has used Expect Care was very satisfied. I could go on and on about how good the staff we were associated with was. When I say the staff I mean from the office administration to nurses to the nurse aides, everyone was great. My prayer is yuu never have a need for Hospice care, but if you do I highly recommend Expect Care.

This company came highly recommended by a friend and in the middle of the night when our Mother took a turn. I can not say enough how truly blessed we were by each member of this team. The intake nurse called and checked on me from the time we started home with mother and stayed with me until I felt comfortable with Mother at home. They staff called to introduce themselves and coordinate their arrival. They went above and beyond for mother to ensure she had what she needed and we got the support we needed as her caregivers. Do not hesitate to choose this company in the time of uncertainty - they will guide you and take care of you! Thank you Expect Care! šŸ¤

Very unprofessional and not helpful. I would give zero stars if possible. I would never recommend this company for hospice care. Please consider using another company for hospice care if at all possible! My mother had Expect Care for hospice. She was told by Expect Care to call them for help so that maybe she would not need to go to the hospital. Well. She passed out one evening and my dad called 911. The paramedics came and my mother she told them she wanted to call Expect Care and not have to go to the hospital. The paramedics made the call to Expect Care and had to insist that my mom needed someone to come and (after much insistance by the paramedic) was told that someone from Expect Care would be there within the hour. So, the paramedics stayed with mom until about the time Expect Care was to arrive. Well. Expect Care called and said they would not come. I guess you can expect care, but you will not get care!

I don’t know where to start. ExpectCare was so helpful and professional while caring for my mom. They guided and helped us through a very difficult time and I’ll be eternally grateful to them. Everyone from the after ours dispatch, the chaplains, the administration, the aids, the team of nurses, to our primary nurse were so wonderful. With all of my heart, thank you.
