I would give zero stars if I could. This place is a total disappointment. The staff lacks professionalism and seems completely incompetent. The visitor parking lot is consistently full, not due to visitors, but because employees take up all the spaces, including handicapped spots. This caused significant issues for my 93-year-old wounded veteran family member who was visiting.

When asking for assistance, we were constantly redirected to the wrong places, wasting time and adding to the frustration. The 'officers' stood around chatting and eating, seemingly uninterested in actually doing their jobs. There are countless rules in place for visitors, yet employees blatantly ignore them without consequence. This is a clear misuse of taxpayer money and resources, and it's disappointing to see such a lack of care and accountability.

They don’t call family’s when a patient is taken out to an area hospital that has life-threatening medical refused to give emergency contact person any information. This place seriously needs to be investigated and one of their doctors thinks he’s in it all and takes patience off of the specialty list even though the patients need the specialist, one of the specialist that was removed from a patient was their endocrinologist who this person needs for their uncontrolled diabetes

If I could give this disastrous so-called hospital a less than one I would. Please see the review by Rebecca Goheen. Completely nailed it. Our nation supposedly decries cruel treatment and yet the admin and staff appear to believe that is appropriate to both the patients (loosely termed as there is not any process for rehabilitation and accurate diagnosis and treatment , inmates in prison are treated better) and the family who are more restricted than ever for visits. This institution has restructured itself to become more restrictive to patient physical and emotional needs as well as to that of supportive family all of which are necessary for the well being of the patient. Most actual hospitals exist to heal. This one exists to harm. There is no standard of care applied throughout every state hospital for basic needs, emotional support , nutrition , retraining, acknowledging and supporting the innate need for sense of positive purpose in life, or diagnosis accurately rather than applying one label for all to ensure a patient will be housed until they can no longer help themselves then dumped on society. Medical issues are ignored until an issue that could be treatable becomes terminal— for instance: an individual complaining of intestinal discomfort for months, ignored by staff and medical, ultimately diagnosed with untreatable colon cancer. The Human beings in charge here are not at all humane to the needs of one another. Those with the most power--admin at the top, to longer term staff below-- become corrupt and wield power without a care toward those who are harmed by the oppressive lack of empathy, compassion and remorse for the harm caused daily. In other words: no better than the worst malignant narcissist. They deem the patients evil ? Look in the mirror and see your own

To tell you the truth about coaling and state hospital the patients there are not as bad as people say and the staff there are as bad as they say. They treat the patients they're worse than they treat the inmates in a California State prison. So calling a state hospital has earned their star.

They deserve - stars for their treatment and abuse of patients. If you have a loved one there pay close attention and make sure they're not being abused by staff. Call patients rights if you have any issue

From the perspective of having visited CSH 3x, talked with 6 of the patients 100x, 10 of the staff 50x, various attorneys and inspectors, and called in the hounds on the hospital 8x - The place is sparkly clean on the outside and filthy dirty with corruption and sneaked in contraband by the staff and security. The highest up - two former hospital directors - get high ratings even from the most tongue-tied patients. However, the security has been brutal, the MA-1 Unit gross with patients lying for weeks in their own feces and urine, and about half of the psych techs are uncaring and unwilling to do anything but play poker on the computers during their shifts. There is room for improvement; still CSH is better than prison for the residents who have not broken any law, but are being incarcerated for crimes they may commit in the future.

The staff and professionals do their best. I have attended functions, initiated by the patients, and was actually pleased. Despite the confined circumstances, the atmosphere was, I felt, positive, livable.
