There is a disconnect to what was advertised versus what was provided. This facility is more of a holding cell. This experience was horrible. A staff member attempted to intimidate my child in front of me. Then she was caught talking about my child to another member of staff implying something was going to happen if someone did not get her (my child). I understand patients come for different reasons but ALL patients should be treated with care and respect. Please be clear this was My experience, I'm sure not all of the staff is horrible. Perhaps additional training should be provided for the techs that may be having difficulty with de-escalating issues, providing non bias care, and professionalism.

My grandson has been in the facility for about six months now and I try to go and visit him for moral support and because of course I miss him. I find the visiting hours of only being able to see him on evenings during the weekend from 6:30pm to 8 PM Very texting as we live four hours away so we’re having to drive back to Atlanta after 8 o’clock on either a Saturday or Sunday night Is rather demanding. I’m not sure why the program does not allow daytime visiting hours during the weekend To accommodate parent who may not be local. But I definitely think it’s something that needs to be considered. Also, I have a court document that Entitles me to be able to talk with his therapist. She, however, is very difficult to reach either by Or email for any updates on my grandson. I was really hoping to be more a part of his rehabilitation here As he spends about half of his time with me, but seems I have not been allowed to do so

I was forced to stay here when I was 16 for eight months. I followed treatment and did what I needed to do to leave here for three months until I realized once you get admitted here you don't get out. They find reasons to keep you longer. I was told by a staff member that "we will purposely piss you off just for you to react" I was thrown out of a desk,landed on my face, ended up with rug burn on half of my face and the staff member told the nurse that I did it to myself. I was pulled into a metal door which ended up splitting my head open, and was not taken to the hospital to have my head checked out. I was cleaned by the nurse and sent on my way. After eight months I was released because my therapist was leaving. I was abused here multiple times and they got away with it.

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I am beyond disappointed and heartbroken by the treatment my daughter received at this facility. I beg you, as a parent, do not send your child here. This place could have been a supportive environment for my daughter in her time of need, but instead, it became a source of ridicule and mistreatment.

The staff here was incredibly rude and lacked any form of compassion for my daughter or the other children in their care. Communication was virtually nonexistent—aside from a call to get consent for medications, which felt more like a formality than a genuine attempt to involve us in her treatment. They wanted to place my daughter on five different medications at once, but I only consented to one. Without my approval, they increased her dose. When my daughter asked them about it, they lied and said they had gotten my consent.

On her first night, she was made to sleep in cold paper scrubs, despite us bringing her own clothes. She was also placed in the male unit to sleep and forced to shower there multiple times, which is completely inappropriate. To make matters worse, she was only given water with meals, a basic need that was unnecessarily restricted.

During her stay, I witnessed disturbing behavior from the staff, including one individual who appeared visibly high and another who took a Bible from the girls, threw it on the floor, and used it as a doorstop. This facility only worsened my daughter’s anxiety, and it’s heartbreaking to think of the lasting impact it may have had on her.

I strongly believe this place should be shut down. No child should endure the kind of mistreatment that my daughter faced here. Please, for the sake of your child's well-being, find somewhere else.

My stay at Coastal Harbor was exactly what I needed to get better. Most of the staff were very respectful and caring. Yes there was one or two that treated the patients disrespectfully. The night nurse "Quita" was the main one. She would talk down to us or treat us as though we were less than. Ms. Lisa on t other hand was amazing and truly cared about us. When I left she gave me a hug and told me she loved me and that I was going to make it. Those words was exactly what I needed to hear in that moment. To all the Coastal Harbor staff thank you. You guys do so much for the patients in such a short time with being so short staffed.

Lack of compassion and clear communication when talking to staff. When I’d call to check on my child, I would get rushed off the phone and barely got any decent explanation as to why they took the routes that they did when developing his care plan. It’s already difficult having a child in such situation away from home where you can’t see them or speak to them as much as you’d like to also feel left out of the loop when it comes to your own child’s well being because they can’t seem to have enough time for you. My child got admitted into this facility and got overdosed on medications. Seems to me like their way of “stabilizing” children is to pump them with insane amounts of medications in short amounts of times to keep them calm enough to get a discharge form. And because they typically stay a week, they don’t have the proper amount of time to safely distribute and monitor medications at a pediatric level. My child started having several adverse reactions and was brought to the Emergency room where they recommended he’d be taken off one of the medications immediately. I made an appointment the next morning with his medical professional who told me that the medication dose was extremely high and took him off of it and who also took one dose away from another medication administered twice a day as it was too high as well. He then went through detox effects after one week of being on the medicine Costal Harbor gave him and got sick to the point he threw up. Very concerning that that’s how they deal with our children. He also had to share a room with another child who was displaying very inappropriate and aggressive behaviors towards my son to the point my child was feeling very uncomfortable and distressed and that’s the last thing a child needs when they are already going through a difficult time. When speaking to staff about it, they said, they are just boys and that’s what they do. Ridiculous. Mind you, my child was previously admitted at a different facility before and room sharing was not allowed because they are minors and need to be closely monitored. Due to the lack of space and privacy, other kids had access to my child’s clothing and yes, they wore his clothes, even his underwear. Those had to get tossed and not only that, when my son got discharge he was missing several items of clothing and some of them were literally brand new. I’m currently waiting on them to reimburse us for that loss. If you can help it, do your research and pick somewhere else to bring your child. Hope this helps. From one caring mom to another.

My daughter attended here twice in 2024. She was 16yrs old with multiple serious mental health diagnosis. I suspected she had a few of them but after 11 stays prior (mostly acute and a few residential), this was the only place to officially diagnosis her properly.

On her second stay (after insurance was prematurely denied) she was given the right medication and with the help and accountability of both her therapist at each stay, she finally own up to her behaviors and lies she told over the years. She made proper apologies and a game plan to get back on track with her family relationships.

Since she been out, she been much better compared to all the other times.

I suggest for any parent is to really see what meds work for your kid or done. I learned that my kid can’t take ADHD meds bc it causes severe depression and increase in mental illness.

The place is nice and the staff are doing their best here. I find that most kids are upset about being there and their mental illness is getting in the way of them realizing they are being helped. My kid was like that over the many stays she had in these places. Unless she got some serious allegations, I try to get my kid to see the other persons side or how they could better handle a situation better even if it’s with staff. Also I call and talk with staff to verify things bc my kids isn’t truthful and I know that so why try to make it seem they can do no wrong.

I hope this review helps other parents when making a decision to go here. We are out of ATL but I’m glad she went here.

Extremely Disappointing – Stay Away

This place could be something special to help young kids, but sadly, it’s far from it. What’s supposed to be a place of rehabilitation feels more like a prison. There’s a severe lack of communication between staff and families, and the night staff is especially unprofessional and cold—showing no compassion whatsoever.

Instead of providing proper care or support, their first approach is to medicate kids with a cocktail of drugs, rather than focusing on meaningful therapy or guidance. The therapy provided here is essentially a joke—ineffective and dismissive. Many of the kids are driven to lie just to escape this miserable environment.

If you’re looking for a place that will genuinely help and nurture your child, do yourself a favor and stay far away from here. This facility does more harm than good.
