I had an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience with Dr. Khaja, whom I initially sought out for an ADHD evaluation. The appointment was scheduled specifically for this purpose, yet from the moment we started talking, he shut me down and dismissed my concerns entirely. Despite having a family history of ADHD—my parents, sibling, and child all have it—he insisted that every symptom I described was “normal” and not worth evaluating. In doing so, he completely ignored the possibility that I could, in fact, have ADHD.As it turns out, I do have ADHD, which was confirmed through a thorough evaluation elsewhere. But Dr. Khaja refused to even begin the proper diagnostic process with me. Instead, he made sweeping generalizations like “people with ADHD cannot hold down a job,” which is both inaccurate and insulting. He also told me I was “just a tired mom” and “definitely” had sleep apnea (despite no evidence for such a conclusion). His comments felt incredibly dismissive, patronizing, and, frankly, offensive.

If you are a woman seeking help for possible ADHD or any related concerns, please do yourself a favor and find a different provider. Dr. Khaja’s outdated and condescending perspective on ADHD—especially in women—could keep you from receiving the proper diagnosis and care you deserve.

In my experience, he:
-Refused to evaluate ADHD symptoms on a call scheduled explicitly for that purpose.
-Dismissed well-known clinical indicators of ADHD as “normal things everyone goes through.”
-Relied on harmful stereotypes, claiming that people with ADHD cannot hold a job.
-Ignored clear family history, which should have at least prompted a thorough evaluation.
-Suggested a dubious alternative diagnosis (sleep apnea) based on no legitimate testing or evidence.

It’s alarming that he seems to treat other patients with the same unfounded biases. ADHD—particularly in women—often goes undiagnosed for far too long due to attitudes exactly like these. Don’t waste your time or risk having your valid concerns written off. Seek out a professional who genuinely understands ADHD and respects your input as a patient. Your mental health and well-being are far too important to place in the hands of someone who outright refuses to listen.

The psychiatrist didn’t really listen to my concern. Instead he laugh and questioned me. It was an awful experience that I don’t want anybody to experience. He made me feel worst with what I’m going through instead of listening and finding a solution.

Honestly one of the most demeaning first time doctor experiences I've ever had. I had Dr. Kaja, and made an appointment before reading the reviews. I was having problems doing the intake form online, and I let them know, and told them I could reschedule if that wasn't okay. They said it was no problem, and that the psychiatrist could help me fill it out. After calling me and then having to hang up to confirm things two times, we finally started our appointment. He berated me and laughed at me for not completing the form even after I told him the reasoning and how the receptionist had said we could fill it out together. He said that was fine, then started apathetically asking me about my trauma. When I would try and respond during sentences, or I would ask him to repeat the question, he would get annoyed with me. When I was telling him about my trauma, he cut me off once again and raised his voice at me to ask me why I didn't put it on the form. At that point, I went quiet, and told him I didn't like the tone he was using with me and I do not want to continue the appointment. He then mumbled "Well, if you would had filled out the paperwork, I could help you." Then spoke up and tried to continue the appointment. I told him I had told him and the receptionist why multiple times, even asking to reschedule if it was too big of a hassle, but now hearing how he speaks to people I didn't want to move forward with him. He tried to continue the appointment. After that, I just told him to have a good day, and hung up after he replied. Honestly, this has to be one of my worst first-time experiences with a psychiatrist ever. Word of advice: no amount of qualifications will make up for lack of empathy and snarkiness. Do not come into the mental health field if you do not have compassion toward your patients.
Also, if you are going to be having appointments held online or over the phone, please make sure that the intake forms sent over are able to be filled out online. Thank you.

I’m giving one star only because I can’t give zero. Throughout my phone session with Dr. Khaja, he did nothing but gaslight me and invalidate every thing I’m struggling with. This man said to me “Even if another doctor had prescribed this medication for you in the past, I won’t order it for you now because it doesn’t matter. You’re a disabled, stay at home mom, it’s not like you have a job or are doing complex calculations or anything.” Verbatim. How this man is allowed to practice medicine in a psychiatric capacity, I will never understand. I have never been treated worse in my whole life, if you care about your mental health, find a different doctor, this one will not help you

Avoid at all costs. I wanted an ADHD assessment. Dr. Khaja invalidated a previous diagnosis of an anxiety disorder and told me that due to my higher education degrees it wouldn't be possible for me to have ADHD, but what I do have is an anxiety disorder. Hello You read that right. He said no to a prior diagnosis of an anxiety disorder then brushed off an ADHD possibility and rediagnosed me with anxiety disorder in the same breath. In a 20 minute phone call. Then he prescribed me with a medication for anxiety without considering my other medications.

When my former doctor was forced to retire, I was pushed into this practice. I accepted so as not to struggle to find a new psych.
They never give a set appointment time, but rather a window of several hours he can call.
This is after paying $175 out of pocket for the appointment.

Until today, my interactions have been polite, clinical, and quick. When i told him AGAIN today that I have nightmares every night, he said its weight gain and sleep apnea, even though these struggled have been present since I started my meds. He argued, was rude, and combative, and wouldnt listen that this was a struggle him and I discussed a year ago. He asked what I did and when explaining I travel full time, he yelled and insisted I have a home base i MUST go back to every few weeks.

In short, he was rude, combative, inconsiderate, made assumptions and jumped to conclusions without collecting data, and I had to fight him for the smallest lowest standard dose of anxiety meds purely for emergencies. Ive been a patient for two and a half years. Ive never had an experience like that with a mental health professional.

Strongly considering reporting Choice Psychiatric to the AMA. I am Deeply deeply disappointed not only in the courtesy of the office and respect for patient’s time, but for the lack of professionalism, decency, a complete lack of bedside manner, and most of all the unwillingness to take even a second to parse correlation with causation, and make snap diagnosis instead, complete with condemnation and gaslighting.

Shame on you

My over-the-phone “session” with the prescriber felt rushed. He was rude and barely let me speak. He finally asked “so do you want a medication?” To which I responded, “yes, what do you recommend?”. We finally decided on something that would be right for me, and when I went to pick it up, it’s the wrong medication. Every time I call to leave a message regarding the issue is EXTREMELY rude. Very condescending office in total.

The WORST receptionists! You call and they pick up the phone, but you don’t get to say ONE word to them because they immediately place you on hold for over 1 hour!!’ This is ridiculous, every time, they suck! Do better! Also they never picked up the phone to answer. Horrible experience. I DO NOT Recommend this place.
