My experience at the Chico facility has been deeply troubling. There needs to be more awareness to prevent similar incidents in the future. During a visit, my father experienced side effects from his medication, so we sought to discuss his symptoms with his doctor. Instead, we were referred to an RN named S***n.

In the examination room, S***n locked the door and immediately started accusing me of not liking the VA. She began making harsh accusations, claiming my father had more serious issues than what he was being seen for, suggesting I was part of my father’s problems! As she continued twisting my words to imply I was blaming the VA for what was happening, she aggressively questioned me and then proceeded to interrupt me with more questions. This behavior caused significant distress for both my father and me.

It’s concerning that such actions and attitudes were displayed by a healthcare professional. I hope this feedback leads to greater awareness and training within this facility to prevent similar situations in the future.

If you have a loved one who is vulnerable, always make sure to have an advocate with them. This incident occurred earlier in the year, and I’m still very hesitant to share it due to concerns about potential mistreatment of my father. However, I believe it’s important to share this experience because I don’t think it was the first time S***n treated a patient like this. If I don’t speak out, she might do it again.

If it matters to you that your health care providers and staff care about you and your well-being, then this is the place for you.

Can they do everything there? Of course not, they’re just a clinic.
Can you walk in without an appointment and be seen immediately? Of course not, but you will be seen.
Will you occasionally see a provider that you’re not happy with? Absolutely, I once saw a physician that I was, shall we say, LESS than pleased with- but as presently constituted, it’s an outstanding team.

I can’t remember getting better care anywhere else at any price….and I’ve never been treated like just a barcode.

Staff is good. I like Dr Dorjee, but every month I have a very hard time getting him to sign off on my pain meds. I've had surgery on both hips 2 times on my lumbar, c-spine. Currently fighting small cell lung cancer. It only takes a few seconds to sign off my meds.

I am extremely pleased with the care I have received from my GP, from Dental Department, and from one-time Triage Nurse.

Always a good experience here. I had a few changes of doctors but it's cool because they've all been really good. I really appreciate all the men and women who work at this location as they've been great.

New Facility Update:

Such a nice new building. Now there's lots of parking. When you walk in there are like 5 self check-in terminals and multiple help desks. The main waiting area has nice new chairs, some of which have USB ports and an outlet on the leg so look down. The pharmacy and eyeglass lab are next to each other. I chatted with the pharmacist and he said he was happy and they were properly staffed. The rooms are big and clean. There are drink and snack machines as well as a drinking fountain made to fill water bottles. All the staff I encountered were very pleasant and did good work. Doc B got me all squared away.

Have always received good, appropriate care at the Chico VA clinic and, in a fairly reasonable timeframe for routine issues. Not perfect but I truly appreciate them doing the best they can with limited resources.
Negatives are that there is no real same day/convenient care, sometimes longish wait times for appointments and, having to drive to Mather for anything beyond basic care.
But the positives outweigh the negatives for the cost and, things work well for routine care.
Shouldn’t expect this clinic to provide a full service, major hospital level of service!
