I’ve been prescribed Ritalin (methylphenidate) daily for over four years without issue. At my most recent appointment, I was told my prescription would be discontinued because the medication didn’t show up in a urine drug screen taken at 8 a.m.—before I had taken my morning dose.

This decision reflects a troubling misunderstanding of how the medication actually works. Ritalin has a short half-life—primarily cleared from the body within hours. If the last dose was taken the day before, especially in the afternoon or evening, it’s expected that a morning urine screen would return negative.

On top of that, most standard urine drug panels don’t even test for methylphenidate or its metabolites unless a specific screen is ordered. It’s not an amphetamine and won’t show up on typical stimulant panels.

To deny care based on a test that isn’t designed to detect the medication—especially when it’s taken outside the narrow window required for detection—is not just bad science; it’s terrible clinical judgment. It punishes compliant patients based on a protocol that doesn’t match the pharmacology of the drug.

This deeply frustrating experience left me feeling dismissed, misunderstood, and unfairly treated. At the very least, I would expect a legitimate practice to understand the medications they prescribe and apply testing protocols that reflect that knowledge.

The overall experience demonstrates a worrying lack of pharmacological literacy and an overreliance on flawed testing protocols rather than clinical judgment. It undermines trust in the provider-patient relationship and fails to uphold basic evidence-based care standards.

Not soo good, very unprofessional staff. I requiere to see the doctor at time of getting my appointment.
The day of my appointment with out letting me know this happened few times. The lady on the front desk , she just said that the Doctor is busy!!!
This to me is rude !! I think I deserve a call to apologize and let me make the decision if I’m ok with the practitioner or cancel my appointment.

Dr. Sosa and his staff are so very helpful, respectful, and friendly! I waited until after my third visit and have received excellent care every time from everyone on staff. I particularly am happy how knowledgeable and patient Dr. Sosa is, he will listen and address all of your concerns and questions. Everyone has done what they said they would do and exceeded my expectations. The nurses and front desk also sincerely cares about you and I am so glad that I have switched to Bright Care Medical Group! Thank you to the entire Bright Care team! We are new to clermont. Switching doctors is never anything easy to do after you’ve been with the same doctor for so many years! However, finding Dr Sosa and his whole team has been a blessing what an amazing doctor he is!! Very thorough has so much patience listens to everything you have to say and the experience has been fabulous. I highly recommend this office!!!

Bright Care medical group has always been on point in their health assessments whenever I've had to have blood work done, my mammography done, my pap smear done and so much more. Even during a trying time such as living through Hurricane Milton, they were there for me. When I had to wait on outside transportation after having my bloodworm done on-site at Bright Care Medical Group, when I had to endure over a two hour wait time for my transportation they took care of me, fed me lunch...etc There are no words to express how much I love them. Five star treatment isn't even enough. No words....
