Meeting him the first time, my autistic daughter wanted to show Dr. Main some of her drawings. He dismissed her rudely and without human compassion, causing her to feel snubbed and worthless. Then, he bluntly told me she didn’t need to be seen anymore, and could get her prescriptions from her PCP. This occurred without Dr. Main reading her chart which clearly stated all of her specific and extensive needs. Of course, I ignored him, and got my daughter the care she truly needed, elsewhere. Very disappointed.

While it has been several years since he treated my daughter, I honestly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Main. He was extraordinary.

The thing I think most parents miss about pediatric psychiatry is that parents are an integral part of the process. Seeing a pediatric psychiatrist requires that the parent be deeply engaged in their child's care. This means research, advocacy, and self-education. I did a ton of reading on my daughter's diagnoses and invested myself deeply in her mental and physical health. I didn't just blindly accept the recommendations of Dr. Main or any other doctor.

There were times of crisis when I called Dr. Main almost daily for a week or two at a time. He never made me feel like a burden and always gave me the respect and attention and time I needed. He viewed me as a partner in my daughter's medical care...not just a nuisance parent to be shuffled out the door.

To any parent that says their child is an overmedicated zombie, my heart goes out to you. That said, as parents we are still their most important health care provider. You are their most important advocate. Don't look to psychiatrists as miracle workers. Dr. Main isn't Superman, but he's an extraordinary pediatric psychiatrist.

I would give zero stars if I could. If you are needing any mental health services for your child-GO OFF CAPE. Don’t expect phone calls to be returned, meds to be refilled or calls back from the doctor when your child is in crisis. Your child is worth much more than what this office offers.

Diagnosed at age 12 as bi-polar. Was prescribed to 2mg of Risperdal (I weighed 90 lbs at the time), even though it wasn't approved for people 12 and under unless they had schizophrenic symptoms (13 and older for bi-polar symptoms) I was only prescribed these drugs because of input that took place over about 10 to 15 minutes and was primarily from my mother, who was never asked to leave the room. I got gynecomastia from those drugs and was an overmedicated zombie for 3 years before he decided that I didn't need the pills anymore. This was 13 years ago when his practice was in MN. He was considered a top notch psychiatrist but from my experiences he only knows how to overprescribe heavy-duty anti-psychotics to children.

Dr Main is phenomenal. He cares about his patients and really listens!! He works collaboratively when needed and has his patients best interest at heart. He's the best on Cape and busy but make sure his patients are taken care of. Great asset to CCH and the community.

! wanted to give one star however the sight wpuld not let me post with out a star - Dr. Bart Main is very unprofessional and pushes you out the door as fast as he can. We started seeing Dr. Main over a year ago with our son, Dr. Main just prescribe medications that my son had already been on in the past over again, when asked why Dr. Main said my son "was not on a therapeutic dosage in the past", though they were prescribed by another psychiatrist and followed up for several months at a time. Again these medications did not work, not a surprise. Throughout the time seeing Dr. Main my son got worse and was hospitalized 3 times with no help from Dr. Main. On one of the most recent appointments Dr. Main asked if we ever tried a certain medication where I responded "Yeah, you put him on that this past year!!! And he was on it previously and both times it did not work!" Of course then he wrote down a different med and rushed us out the door.
He is uncaring, unprofessional and plain out rude.

Mieke Ackell has been a great addition to this practice. I think she and Dr. Main balance each other well. Also, Linda at the front desk is always pleasant and helpful. The only trouble I have had is with the prescription refill services. I addressed my concerns with Mieke and she assured me that she would personally speak to the MAs that take the messages on refills.

Good person, does care. You have to share and talk with him. Don’t expect him to read you’re mind. Open up and let him help. But he is maybe to busy, could use more help.
