First time going to Avecina, Newberry Road location in Gainesville. Made an appointment and filled out my documents online, showed up at my appointment time and was back in the back within five or 10 minutes. Once I was in the back someone was with me right away, taking vitals and then I met Carmen I believe she was an ARNP?, very nice and personable. She checked out my knee and then they took some x-rays, she reviewed the x-ray with me which I loved. I’ve been to other places (UF ortho) they don’t even show you the CT, They just tell you their interpretation. She referred me to an orthopedic specialist, which I was glad that she did, so that hopefully further treatment can take place. Overall very pleased with Avecina, the receptionist, Carmen (ARNP), and Virginia). Everyone was very pleasant and I was out in an hour and 20 minutes. Would definitely go there again.

We were very concerned about the potential infections from the dirty nail. But Dr. Sue was not very patient in answering our questions.
Also, the clinic was pretty empty (with us being the only patient) during the whole time when we were there (12:45pm to 2pm), compared to other urgent care places which are typically full of patients all the time. This does not seem a good sign or indicate a very good and high-quality clinic attracting many people.

An update:
After seeing the very defensive and inaccurate response from the clinic, I want to clarify what actually happened during our visit—at least once—before I move on. I have no interest in continuing a non-constructive back-and-forth, and I will not be returning to this clinic in the future.

My original feedback was written with care. I intentionally held back from detailing our full frustration because I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and offer respectful, constructive comments. Unfortunately, the response I received not only misrepresented what happened, but also dismissed my genuine concerns as a parent. In addition, I was very surprised to see that the clinic publicly disclosed details of our visit in their response—despite including a completely false description of me asking for a guarantee or exact hours—which may be a violation of HIPAA privacy rules.

At no point did I ask for a "guarantee" or make unrealistic demands. My questions were focused on understanding the potential risks of tetanus following an injury with a dirty nail and what we could do if symptoms developed. These are legitimate medical concerns that deserved thoughtful, empathetic answers. Unfortunately, the provider did not take the time to truly listen or address them clearly. Instead, she became visibly impatient and dismissive, repeating the same lines without engaging with the specific questions I was asking. She even attempted to rush us out multiple times, creating an uncomfortable and pressured environment.

My daughter—who is 8 years old—asked me to stop asking questions, not because she felt reassured, but because she was uncomfortable with how the provider was reacting. That is something no child should experience in a healthcare setting.

I also found it unprofessional that the clinic’s response focused more on defending its reputation and explaining away the low patient volume than acknowledging or reflecting on the concerns I raised. It’s disappointing, but at this point, I simply want to share our experience clearly so others can make an informed choice.

We all understand that medical providers cannot predict the future or offer guarantees—but we do expect to be treated with respect, empathy, and care. Unfortunately, that was not what we experienced here.

Today was my first time at Avecina and despite being sick it was an excellent experience. I booked appointment online but found that I couldn't wait because I was feeling worse. I called to ask about the wait before I came in and Shirley told me to come right in. When I arrived Shirley was just as welcoming and efficiently checked me in. The waiting room was very clean and there was only one person waiting with me. I was called back by the nurse Janelle and she took vitals and was also so friendly. The NP I was seen by, Andrea, was kind and listened to my symptoms and gave me a diagnosis and fully explained it as well as explaining what prescriptions I would be receiving and why, she was very thorough and in a way that was understandable. I will definitely choose Avecina again if I need an urgent care in the future!

I was staying 2 hours away from any remote area when I began to fill ill ( flu like symptoms ). I still had a few days to go before driving hundreds of miles back home. I found this urgent care online and they accepted my insurance . The facility was so clean , the staff was beyond friendly and they expedited my process. Where I am from you can easily spend the entire day waiting at the urgent care to be seen. Thank you for helping me , I know I will begin to feel great soon. 🙂

Wish I could give zero stars. Scheduled an appointment for 9am. Showed up 5 minutes early, was told the wait would be “a few minutes”. THIRTY minutes later, another patient walks in and they’re told the wait is an hour or more. After almost an hour of waiting, the women at the front desk tells me that their system is down and they can’t process my insurance, so they can only see me with self pay, which is a MINIMUM $150-300 per visit, which I can’t afford. They said I can wait a little bit to see if the system comes back up. Finally an hour and 15 minutes past my appointment time, they tell me to go to the ER. I guess I’ll just be going to the ER for future urgent healthcare needs since urgent care services are nearly impossible to get in Gainesville.

After having a bad cough for over a week, I decided it was time to get medical care. Last year it took me days to get into my PCP and then more days for them to get the test results back before they would prescribe antibiotics. I checked for urgent care centers near me and this one came up. I called to see what the wait time would be like and they said they currently had no one waiting. I drove there, filled out the normal paperwork (all on my phone in the waiting room), and was immediately taken in. I experience from the first call was excellent. The facility is very clean and comfortable, the front desk person was kind and helpful, the medical assistant was excellent, and the APN, who provided My care was absolutely wonderful! Thorough, kind, responsive to my questions, and walked me through everything. I was prescribed five medications because of concern that the bronchitis could become pneumonia. I am so glad I went to them and didn’t delay my care and was so relieved that there was no wait and the staff were all exceptional and professional. I love my PCP, but this was 1 million times better!

I came, saw the nurse practitioner, and I paid the price listed on the wall for the services rendered in full and prior to receiving any services.
The sign clearly stated the supposed cost of the appointment and the labs.
This organization still sent me a bill for $50.
