I I can't express how grateful I am for this amazing animal shelter! As a single mom on a tight budget, there are times when I struggle to make ends meet, and knowing that this shelter provides free food for my dog and cat is such a huge relief. The staff here is incredibly friendly and welcoming—every time I visit, they treat me with so much respect and kindness. They genuinely care about everyone who walks through their doors. I always leave feeling supported and appreciated, and honestly, I just want to give each employee a hug! This shelter is truly a blessing for our community.

My dad has been wanting a dog for a little over a year now. So he went to the shelter, but they stated you need to look up the pet you want to ask to meet so there's no walk ins 🙁 I helped my dad look online since he didn't know how and we picked out a dog. We went the next day and asked to meet the puppy, but he had already been adopted. However, he had a brother and he's was just wonderful!

They let us adopt him that same day, and were kind enough to give my dad a used crate, 2 dog toys, a small bag of food, and leash to start him off! 🙂 I haven't seen my dad so happy in forever! His new dog has taken to him so well and is very behaved! I think the staff gave him some training since he listens so well and understands "sit", "no", "down" and doesn't tug on the leash during walks.

My only complaints were that the website wasn't updated, and a little hard to navigate. But the staff were very kind, and working hard to try and help everyone. There were A LOT of walk ins so it did take a few hours! But it was sooooo worth it to get my dad a friend again! 🙂 Much love from the Schnibben family and our new pup Bert!

The shelter isn't the best place for an animal(home is of course) but it's way better than being on the streets. They are out of the elements!! Have a clean sanitized kennel DAILY!! They have fresh WATER, get FOOD and TREATS, get a WALK(extra time when there are volunteers), they get a vet check, get vaccinated and flea treated, FIXED before becoming adoptable AND they get LOVE and ATTENTION from the staff/volunteers!!!
AND Yes if they are short staffed it's hard trying to take time out to show a dog or cat. That time is cutting into kennel cleaning, giving meds and potty breaks.. Cut the place some slack it is over flowing with strays and surrendered pets!! Not enough rescues and adopters, too many breeders... Volunteering helps tremendously please consider it!

Went by to look at cats only to find out that they want you to scan a QR code to look at the cats which is fine but they did not even have any pictures up. Just seems like they are making it harder and harder for animals to get adopted which is really unfortunate. Don't waste your time here. It's no wonder there is so much overcrowding. Places need to stop acting like covid is still a thing and open back up to the way things were before so animals can finally start finding homes again.

I had three young cats to give them. They refused to take them, unseen. Martinez wouldn't take them since they were from Antioch. I had to turn them loose because we have two Staffordshires, one of which hates cats because his previous owner used to sick him in cats.

I highly recommend that if someone wants a fur family member, pick them up in Antioch. They may not have papers, but the ones you get from a breeder doesn't necessarily have legal papers. I've found that animal control pets are more loving.

Some shelters, wont return calls, wont return emails and wont even talk to you.
Antioch shelter did everything right for me, there websites a bit clunky, put the people were all friendly to me and all seemed to be very caring for the animals. I think they all should be commended for the work they do. And thanks for my new beautiful kitten, Bella

I wish I could give negative stars for how awful Antioch Animal Services is.
Saturday April 23rd our neighbors aggressive dog which we have previously raised concerns with the owner, this dog broke our fence which you can see in the pictures that it was pushed from their side.
The dog then took and mauled our puppy that we have had for 3 weeks, the sweetest most perfect puppy that was not the curious type to even mess with the fence.
Animal Control eventually came after Antioch PD which they are great but the Animal Control Officer that came went directly to the neighbor and took their statement which I should mention they had a party and had their music blasted and they claimed that our 23lb puppy broke the fence and was in their yard and their dog had the right to kill her.
They eventually came to us to take our statement and had already come to the conclusion that they would not take the neighbors dog. Pretty much telling us it was our puppies fault that she got killed.
To add to this my boyfriend and I were in my room after everything happened only to hear our neighbors sister saying that she “punked” the animal control supervisor into letting them keep their dog which has had many other occasions which she has attacked other dogs. Since she was in their yard after getting dragged from our backyard it was not on them.
This place has to be the absolute worst and does not care about your animals.
They made us feel that it’s okay for another dog to break your fence and take your puppy but since the dog took her to their side it’s the puppies fault for being in her backyard walking along the fence line only to get taken and killed.
They have to be the most unprofessional, incompetent, useless department.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would, what a horrible place.

Decided to venture to potentially adopt and just had the worst experience. Granted there are COVID protocols, which I understand. However, never have I seen a less humane group of staff. "We close at 5". My friend and I arrived before 4pm and asked if we could see the dogs because we were looking to adopt. This rude woman simply said "do you have an appointment, it's preferred?" we did not and she then stated "we aren't doing walk ins because we are short staffed." My friend said "it says on the website appointments are preferred but not required" they were not budging. I understand that but when we are the only people there, make an exception. To make an appointment, you have to call the number to the shelter, we did that and no one will answer.

We are the only two folks in the place and we are there an hour before you close. At the very least make an appointment for that day if you need something in the system. The staff made it feel like they simply could not be bothered with having one of their animals adopted. You know the ones they continuously complain that they at capacity with

And with not allowing for walk throughs in the kennels, tells me they are trying to hide the most deplorable kennel conditions. We witnessed one of the staff taking the dogs out by the dumpsters to this "dog run" which was smaller than a bathroom with astroturf for their potty break. Not even out for 15 minutes. That is not exercise. I can only tell you that the Antioch Animal Shelter is a shelter in name only. I've seen better conditions in the dog meat industry!

Rather than assist getting a dog a fur-ever home, they were more interested in leaving work by 5pm on the dot. I feel sorry for any animal that ends up there. They could have had one adopted and fees paid.
