A little over three years ago, I was diagnosed with severe gastroparesis. For two years, I was trapped in a relentless cycle of daily vomiting and constant pain. My weight plummeted by 70 pounds due to the incessant vomiting. Despite trying every available medication, including one sourced from Canada, I found no relief. Eventually, I underwent surgery to have a gastric pacemaker implanted, hoping for a reprieve. Sadly, it offered none.

The relentless vomiting and pain persisted, driving me in and out of the hospital. My gastroenterologist eventually told me there was nothing more he could do and referred me to a pain management specialist and for a feeding tube. Initially, I resisted the idea of pain management, fearing daily pain medication. But as my quality of life dwindled, I relented, seeking a way to dull the pain if nothing else.

I walked into my first appointment with Dr. Flaxman, tears streaming down my face, utterly hopeless. At 31, I felt I had lost everything to this disease. I could no longer work or enjoy activities with my daughter. Most days, I was confined to bed. Dr. Flaxman sat with me, not just addressing my physical symptoms, but also acknowledging the emotional toll gastroparesis had taken on me. She listened as I shared my frustration with the four GI doctors who had declared there was nothing more to be done. She didn't promise a cure but offered hope for a 50% improvement. Skeptical yet desperate, I trusted her and her compassionate staff. After that appointment, I called my husband from the car and cried, feeling hope for the first time in two years.

Over the past year, I've undergone hypogastric plexus injections in my back with Dr. Flaxman. It took months, but my symptoms have improved by at LEAST 50% without relying on pain medication. Not just the pain, but the vomiting has significantly slowed down. Though I still have difficult days, I'm slowly reclaiming my life. Thanks to Dr. Flaxman and her team, my daughter is getting her mother back, my husband his wife back, and I'm regaining my quality of life. Our lives have transformed for the better.

While I may never be completely cured, Dr. Flaxman has helped me more than any GI doctor or surgeon. I avoided the feeding tube thanks to the injections. Would I recommend Natural State Pain and Wellness? Absolutely. Every person in that office is dedicated to going above and beyond to help. From Gayla at the reception, always greeting me with a warm smile and genuine concern, to Kerry and Gayle in the procedure room, ensuring my comfort and well-being, everyone there feels like a lifesaver.

Thank you, Dr. Flaxman, for giving me my life back and supporting me through the darkest times. My family and myself are forever grateful to you and your incredible staff. Much love to you all.

Dr. Flaxman and her whole team are by far the kindest, most caring and dedicated group of medical professionals I’ve ever come into contact with. They truly go way above and beyond what I imagine to be the norm of care and what my experience has been previously with medical professionals. Every single woman in this office deserves a medal for being an Earth Angel.

Dr. Flaxman diagnosed the cause of my pain within minutes of meeting me. This is after months of doctors not knowing what specifically was wrong while also implying sometimes directly sometimes indirectly that the pain may be “all in my head”. Once diagnosed by her, she immediately went to work on her plan of treatment and her team gave me hope for the future that i didn’t even know i needed. I am currently in treatment with them, and although I’m not pain free as of yet, i trust that in their care, I will soon be able to regain the vitality and freedom I had before the pain started.

I’ve had more than one woman in this office give me her personal cell number in case i need to get ahold of someone. I have had a woman in this office check on me on weekends, holidays, and WHEN SHE HERSELF IS ON VACATION. Sorry not sorry for screaming because have you ever known a doctor or nurse do that!?

If you are in pain, I cannot recommend them enough. I’d give them 10/5 stars if possible.

After many years of being in pain, she was able to give me relief that day. She was very personable and easy to talk to. She took the time to listen to my needs.
