"Do you think your husband is afraid of you?"

"When you talk it is like being hit with a hundred pellets from a buckshot"

"You overwhelm me."

Are these things you want to hear from your new therapist after 3 sessions? I sat in complete silence trying to understand what was happening.

After I listened to all of this in silence, he said "Oh, I've got your attention now, don't I?"

He asked me, after the 3rd session, if I could make a "diagram of all the people in my life" because he was having trouble keeping track of all the people in my life. I only spoke of my inner circle. Maybe 6 people.

He laughed at me when I asked why I was double charged for the current (and last) session. He laughed and said, "You're now accusing me of overcharging you?" It turns out, he DID overcharge me. I did exit his office after he laughed at me. I insisted on a refund for the overcharge. He gave me an immediate refund. I appreciated that.

In full disclosure, on our first visit, I was in crisis. I stated that. I specified that this was unusual for me, and I was quick to pour out my pain and concern over a recent blow-up with a friend. I specifically stated that my worst fear is to overwhelm someone. The next visit I was cool and calm, like I had been with my previous therapist (of 16 years). It was important for this therapist, who knew me not, to understand that I was in an unusual situation since my mom died recently.

It is fine if a therapist doesn't like me.

It was difficult to find the courage to seek out another therapist after Leake. I did find another one. I was honest and shared my Leake experience with this current therapist. I did not share Leake's name. I did explore my role in all of that. My current therapist was aghast at Leake's behavior.

I reviewed his last Superbill for my insurance. He and I agreed that the proper diagnosis would be "Adjustment Disorder" when I first met him because my mom died. I WAS having a difficult time adjusting to life. After our "spat", he decided my diagnosis was "borderline personality disorder" and put that on my last Superbill to submit to my insurance.

I have been on/off in therapy since I was 13. No therapist even mentioned Borderline PD. Not even the therapist I saw for 16 years.
