The social services office does little to nothing to help people who aren't Hispanic or an immigrant. US born citizens do not seem to qualify for many benefits that many immigrants as well as illegals are recieving. When I have taken a few American born people seeking help I was stunned when they were quickly denied. I also noticed that they were the only non Hispanic people applying for help. What I also noticed that our government is very quick to assist those from other countries instead of helping their own. Dirty waiting area and rude unfriendly staff.

Who do these people think they are? It’s 8 am in the morning, why are you hanging up on customers? Idc what your reason is, you’re a customer service representative, answer the phone, it’s your ONE and ONLY job.

My parents went to turn in there application for medical …the lady that attended them was sooo rude ..at the point of raising her voice so high at my father and my mom came out of there with tears in her eyes..my parents are Indigenous Peoples ..and don’t know much Spanish ..my guess is that maybe that why she treated them bad..does give her the right tho…

The experience of trying to apply for emergency help is infuriating to say the least. The staff shows little regard, and empathy for a potential client trying to receive emergency help. After missing an appointment (even though I repeatedly called back and left voicemails) I was told I was denied. (For context, I’m going through a domestic violence situation and need help) what am I supposed to do here, what is the county waiting for, for me to be killed so they can do something?!
I was told if I came into the office, they would be able to provide immediate assistance only to be turned away at the door.
This place is a joke.

They have a lot of workers yet only 2 or 3 windows open at a time.

They do not communicate with each other regarding a case. One person says one thing and another says something else.

Staff is not trained well.

i applied like 2 months ago in salinas ca social services for calfresh and went through all process and got my worker and the only thing left was for me to send the documents that the worker needed before the date given and i received a later in the mail saying my application was denied because i didn't complete the application as in not sending the documents but i did send them 3 times and before the date given and Ive been calling the worker and he never answers the phone and ive left voicemails and no call back till this day and ive been calling the worker quite a few times and still no answer no call back and goes to voicemail all the time and ive called the social services office and ask for the back up worker and they said that the back up worker was unavailable and that they will redirect my call to the worker and no answer and I called the office again and told them and they just did the same thing and the same thing happened no answer and i went in person and told them what has been happening and they even took copies of the documents and left a message for the worker and that the latest for him to contact me is 2 days and still no call or nothing and its going to be 3 weeks since they told me that

Suit 216 is part of the complex at 1000 Main St., Salinas. It has lots of parking and this is where the public facing Monterey County Department of Social Servics is located. Unfortunately, there is no after hours drop-off or anything. M-F 8am - 5pm.
