I was a patient from April of 2022 to June of 2024. I was last given a "normal" report in June 2024, after having both a 2D/3D mammogram AND whole breast ultrasound... Less than 7 months later I was diagnosed with stage 2a IDC breast cancer at a different facility in Mobile. I do have dense breast tissue, I understand that can make cancer more difficult to detect, but I still have ZERO confidence or trust in Women's Imaging Specialists abilities and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They also never once mentioned my microcalcifications in any of my results, which I knew about from previous screenings at a different facility prior to 2022. Additionally, the last mammogram tech that I had at Fairhope was quite unpersonable and came across very dismissive of my concerns. This entire time I've had cancer and they never caught it! Unfortunately for me, lawsuits for delayed diagnosis are extremely difficult to prove, I have no way forward with a case, so my one-star-rating will have to suffice. A few days ago, I received an appointment reminder in the mail... Talk about triggering while I'm going through chemo. Do not contact me again!

I’ve gone back and forth about writing this review since being diagnosed with breast cancer in August, but I feel it’s important to share my experience. I *strongly* recommend that if you are having any breast concerns or going in for screening, you choose a facility associated with a hospital system—ideally one where the radiologist is on-site and part of the clinical team, rather than reading images virtually.

Two years before my diagnosis, I came to this clinic with breast pain. I was 36 at the time with dense breasts, and had orders for a mammogram and an ultrasound if needed. Not understanding how this clinic operated, I had the mammogram, which showed nothing. I asked about the ultrasound and was told it wasn’t necessary—the radiologist (reading virtually) insisted everything looked fine and advised me to stop worrying and return at 40.

Knowing what I know now, no reputable clinic should have relied solely on a mammogram, especially given my age and breast density. For two years, I convinced myself the pain was nothing. That changed when I found a lump.

Still unaware of how poorly this facility handled care, and in a complete panic, I returned because they had the first available appointment. This time, I had a mammogram and ultrasound, and was told I needed a biopsy. But instead of helping me coordinate the next steps, I was left to make frantic calls myself. Because I hadn’t been screened through a hospital system, it was extremely difficult to get scheduled anywhere.

Thankfully, I got in with a breast surgeon in Baton Rouge due to a cancellation. He fast-tracked me to a biopsy, but even he had significant trouble obtaining images from this clinic. What was already an overwhelming and terrifying time became even more difficult due to their lack of coordination.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Surgery revealed nearly 10 cm of DCIS (stage 0), which likely became invasive due to lack of space. We’ll never know if an ultrasound two years earlier would’ve caught it before it turned invasive—but my breast surgeon believes it’s very possible that it would have.

And to top it off, about a month after my diagnosis, this clinic called—not to check in with compassion, but simply to ask what the "result" was, despite having played no role in my actual care and having made everything significantly harder.

If everything is normal, I’m sure this clinic seems easy and convenient. But if you’re someone who needs additional screening or follow-up, my experience was a nightmare. Please consider going to a facility that is connected to a hospital and provides comprehensive, in-clinic care.

I would like to respond to the comment below:

I want to clarify that the abnormality was not detected through imaging—it was found through my own breast self-exam. Your team confirmed what I already knew was there. That’s not early detection. True early detection would have meant identifying the mass *before* it became palpable. This distinction is important, especially when patients are doing everything they’re told to do and still fall through the cracks.

I also have a question about the guidelines you referenced. Does the American College of Radiology or the Mammography Quality Standards Act. From what I understand, these guidelines support diagnostic imaging—including ultrasound—for symptomatic women, regardless of age, especially those with dense breasts.

It’s a lovely experience, like going to a spa. They know how to take a not too pleasant experience and make it one where you look forward to going every year.
