This is a quick little story, if you don’t like reading go to the store and buy “sports pain relief balm” by HempFusion, rub it on whatever hurts, probably not eyes though. If you want to know how this store changed my life a little bit, read on.

I’m a flatbed truck driver, 6’5” and 240, and occasionally will have such bad back pain due to elements of the job that I wakeboard with excruciating lower back pain. This morning was one of those days, and my usual back exercises weren’t helping.

I fortunately was parked in the same parking lot as Debbie’s health foods. On the door they had a sign for pain relief so I went in, explained my situation, and one of the nice ladies immediately went for a tester bottle of Hempfusion sports pain relief balm for me to put on my back while she showed me the other options.

By the time we got to the aisle with the curcumin and other natural pain relievers, an almost magical sense of pain relief was permeating my whole back and my pain had subsided from an 8-9 to a 2-3.

The relief was so drastic that all of my fears about how I was going to get through the day melted away and I couldn’t help but cry. I cry maybe twice a year, and usually only when someone dies or if a country song hits me in a moment of reflection.

I wasn’t expecting to, and I was so grateful I gave her a hug and said sorry I just didn’t know it was possible to have pain leave that fast I was so worried about today... a little worried she may not have wanted a hug from a big crying trucker and embarrassed from my reaction to the relief I tried to quickly pull it together.

She kindly laughed and gave me another little hug and told me it was going to be ok. I’ve never had a big sister but I wanted to leave a sappy review and say that I genuinely felt cared for at this store, and felt like for a few minutes I was cared for like family.

For a truck driver alone on the road all week that’s such a drastic difference in our day to day tough and lonely trucker lives.

Thank you so much for the help and kindness, I know hugs aren’t protocol and crying in stores is stupid and embarrassing but you lifted my spirit today and I thank God for finding this little store and the incredible pain relief you gave me.

To the reader, see the photo of what I bought and support this little store, they know what they’re talking about.

Stay safe on the roads everyone, use your turn signals, and stay out of the blind spots 😉

Alex

2024 Addition: My wife still shops at Debbie's so we went in to buy something for her. They proudly have a sign at the register saying "Debbie's will NOT be accepting EBT/Snap as a form of payment." Disappointing but not surprising that they would discriminate against the elderly, the poor, and the disabled.

Original: My partner and I have shopped Debbie's for years. The service has always been average or less, but the products have always been of a good quality for a local health food store.

During the pandemic, it has been mandated that Orange City must wear masks to help limit the spread of the virus, and to protect the elderly or immunocompromised. Debbie's so proudly posted a sign out front (you can see it in someone else's review) that you don't have to wear masks and they won't make you, because of HIPAA and the 4th amendment. They claim this is to allow people who conditions that make it impossible to wear masks be able to shop, without fear of being questioned. This is actually fair and reasonable, because some people actually do have conditions that make it very challenging to wear a mask.

It becomes much more clear why this is actually posted outside as you walk in and see that not a single employee is wearing a mask. They are also not at all considerate of space between each other and their customers.

Let me make a few things very abundantly clear. HIPAA and the 4th does not exonerate you from wearing a mask or being asked why you're not wearing one. Check your facts. Of course you can ask people why they're not wearing a mask. Sorry that the Facebook post you saw this information on has in fact misinformed you, Debbie. To pretend that you give any amount of concern for people's health conditions is laughable, when it is concerning masks and Covid-19.

Secondly, people's health and well-being should come well beyond the concern of your employees being "comfortable" as opposed to masked. Every employee at my business wears them 5 to 9 hours a day. Do we take breaks to breath more comfortably without them? Of course. They're nowhere near fun to breath through. But pretending like you "could" have medical conditions to avoid wearing masks - Especially when many of your customers ACTUALLY do - is indefensible.

We will never be returning to your place of business. Learn to care about people (your customers AND your employees) more than you do about your "American Right" to not wear a mask.
