I was backer acted for self harm and sent here, while here I was given the sedative haldal simply for walking laps around the facility to pass the time as it’s a sign of “anxiety”, even when I repeatedly stated I did not have anxiety. For the next 3 days i was admitted after being forced to take those pills I was unable to keep my head up when sitting in a seat, it was hard to talk, I was drooling, and I was asleep almost 24/7. When I complained of these symptoms to the nurses, none of them cared, I started crying due to these symptoms and when I explained it was due to the symptoms from the medications they treated it as me being depressed and completely ignored it yet again. In here they treat every action you take as a mental illness symptom and are clearly very desperate to extend your stay, do not come here!

TERRIBLE experience. I'm a college graduate/spiritual/ intelligent/motivational speaker. Accidentally took wrong medication and landed here! It was like prison: no activities, no TV, no books, opportunities to interact. One room had crayons and paper!! Patients in gowns and barefoot!Thank God I only had to endure 3 days

Never ever use this facility, I repeat NEVER EVER use this facility. I spent 1 only 1 day there!
Disregard the lovely website, it is totally unequivocally only show! The real and honest truth is that is a totally dehumanizing experience! You are made to sleep on a slab with a sheet, pillows are not at all what a pillow should be, besides they have very few and I mean few blankets. It is freezing cold there.
You are made to wear an ankle monitor so the nurses can just sit on their behinds at the desk.
Heaven forbid you need to speak to one, because you MUST walk up their desk in order to ask anything, usually the answer is NO! Being in poor physical condition I must of walked, I should say limp up there no less than 50 to 100 times. There is what appears to be a call button on the wall but it is not operational. Quite a joke!
In my short experience (thank God) I only encountered a handful of nice caring staff. My discharge nurse was the one and only nurse that was compassionate! The evening nurse Laura was a total mean person as well as supposedly the top nurse with blue glasses threatened me with something called a Baker Act if I didn’t shut up!
I could conceivably write a book on my 1 day experience.
So, if you truly care about your loved one, I beg you to consider somewhere else
, like Serenity at Dr.’s hospital. If you would like to hear more from me please feel free free to email me, on second thought this probably would not get posted if I gave my email and for that I am sorry. Good Luck to all in need of mental health care, your dog wouldn’t be treated well there.

Having special needs and mental illness issues, this is the ONLY facility I will go to when I get Baker Acted and I let the staff at SMH know this very clearly. This is a safe place for me next to being at home because the staff knows me. Bayside, yes it was a totally different story. At Cornell, the place is beautiful, clean, and all of your needs are taken care of. Your doctor and social worker see you once a day even on the weekends, the food which you would think would be awful comes from the hospital and it is amazing and you get to pick it yourself from a menu everyday. The staff is amazing. They sit with you all the time, if you are having a bad day or you need to talk with someone, they sit down with you for as long as you need to. The medication is controlled properly by scanning your QR code on your bracelet and never had wrong medication distributed like I've had at other places. For relatives of loved ones here, please feel comfortable that they are being cared for and they are safe. The staff literally checks on the patients every 15 minutes and have to record it. If you need help without being Baker Acted, you can admit yourself before 11pm as long as there is a social worker available. If you need anything, you can speak to Terry who is one of the directors.

Sadly, I've been to this facility twice. The techs and most of the nurses are very kind but asking to see a psychiatrist resulted in nothing, at first. When I pressed the matter, I was told, effectively to go back to my room and be quiet or I wouldn't be released. I was there voluntarily. It's a criminal organization in my opinion.

Not so good.. roommate's granddaughter brought here. She is psychotic, hallucinates, violent towards school staff and others... School and psychiatrist recommended to bring her here...and all they did here is took her off some medicines, diagnosed "autism", and sent her back home..now she's twice as bad, cannot sleep.. going off the walls with voices at home here.
Only positive thing is that it gave the household a needed "break" from her for a week... 😩
Thanks a lot!🙄
Oh, and lost three of her shirts

This behavioral health inpatient facility was invaluable to us when our loved one had issues that required medication. When someone lives alone, it’s often difficult to be put on new medications, and two weeks was required for the medications to be tried under medical supervision. Our loved one received excellent care and the experience was a positive one for them. I do wish they had daily visitation hours, but I understand the reasons they do not.

They sent people's belongs to other units and gave the incorrect diet to a diabetic. They put all my own information in wrong, and gave the incorrect information to all my follow up providers so all the appointments were cancelled and it was very difficult to untangle the mess they made of my information. I really hope they didn't disclose my medical information to strangers. They definitely sent my follow up appointment information to someone else. Huge HIPPA violations occur here. Be careful
