My daughter came here on an emergency basis. We recently moved back to this area from Georgia. The care here is far better than what she was receiving in Georgia. She had been undergoing treatment in Georgia for approximately 2 years and was still having major issues on a weekly basis. Her first visit here they did a med change with remarkable results and she is now receiving follow up treatment at their outpatient center. I am so relieved that she has gotten her spark back! My daughter would like to say thank you to staff member Erin.

I hesitated to write this review but here is my opinion. I am a retired board certified psychiatrist who worked 30 years in a teaching hospital. Our experience with The Vines was awful. My son was Baker acted and we were unable to choose the hospital he was taken to. He is a single adult who lives with me. The communication with the family is almost non existent. The “doctor “ called me once after I wrote to them expressing my concern about providing them information due to previous psychiatric medications side effects that led him to ICU. He was kept for 10 days and without discharge planning or warning, they called me on a Saturday to pick him up. He was discharged in the same condition he went in. He got agitated and verbally hostile in the discharge area but the doctor refused to speak to me. He didn’t get treatment for a cornea ulcer in an eye where he had a cornea transplant. They did not provide a gluten free diet, resulting in diarrhea. All his clothes, shoes and even underwear disappeared, both the ones he had upon admission and the ones I brought. Except for the therapist/case manager the rest of the clinical staff I interacted with lacked empathy, did not show compassion, did not care for his wellbeing. He told me stories about the rude staff and alarming situations he witnessed but since I was not there, I would not write about them. My son has 5 previous psychiatric hospitalizations in caring, professional and excellent hospitals. He was also Baker acted earlier this year and he was hospitalized in UF Psychiatric Hospital in Gainesville. What a difference! I don’t know how The Vines hospital is accredited. It seems they are aware of the problems but either they don’t care or have no accountability. Again, this is my subjective opinion.

My son voluntarily admitted himself. He has served his 72 hours and the hospital is not releasing him. I have called multiple times and no one from the hospital calls me back. I feel like we are being held hostage and no one has the time to call me. I am so frustrated. I just need some answers.
I am revising this post. My son was released yesterday and said all of the staff were very kind to him. The only issue that I have is that it was very difficult to speak to a nurse. I realize that they are very busy but it was very hard to actually speak to a staff member.

The definition for incompetence in the dictionary should be changed to "The Vines Hospital" These are the most incompetent and non caring practitioners, I've ever came across. They will hold your loved ones longer than needed, try to give them medication for condition they don't have. They will not return phone calls and will not give you any information even though a release was signed to that effect. when my son asked the doctor when will he be released, she laughed at him. I guess the idea is to hold the patients as long as they can, to rack up big charges. Well I've got news for them, they will have to take a couple of flights across the atlantic to come try and collect. No one will be paying for your incompetence. Run far from these people, they are absolutely the worst in the business..

I was pleased overall, however there are serious problems with some of the medical attendant and meal staff. I can confidently speak for myself and other clients on the unit. A few of them were rude, unpleasant and very often unprofessional. That same group had a different set of rules than what was both published and practiced by their peers. I wish I could remember their names. I do remember the names of their peers who excelled in compassion, knowledge, empathy, kindness and work effort. I’d like to praise Ms Sade, Ms Quanisha (spelling) and Mr. William. There are a couple others whose names I don’t recall. Basically, more than 50% of that group needs retraining at the very least. The nursing staff is great especially Ms Sara, Ginger and Eric. There is a traveling nurse who should never go near anyone. She was clearly under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both giving several of us the wrong medication. Her actions were so egregious that many of us complained and to the organization’s credit, she was removed from passing meds yet not sent away which was disappointing and an affront to those whose lives she risked. The therapist Mr Joseph was amazing and the psychiatrist Dr. Matthews and her NP Mr Jim (not sure of his name) were outstanding! I know nothing is perfect and what you all do is challenging work, but it’s also critical work and these type of staffing issues need to be addressed. In closing, I saw what may have been an indication that you are aware of the issues I’m highlighting as the supervisor (don’t know his name) made several visits and basically camped out one night to bring order, discipline and accountability to that group. Overall, I got what I needed from your program and would even recommend it albeit with caution.

UPDATE: THEY RELEASED MY SON the Dr did call me but only on the day of discharge. Still I'm grateful, still the management here really needs reform . There should be policies implemented to establish proper communication with caregivers/ parents . My son is 27 and on the spectrum but so high functioning he was in regular school but labeled add his whole life until last year he was given a diagnosis of autism. He has always resided with me and his grandparents ALWAYS under our care but and commended by school teachers due to just how well mannered my son has always been ,he has been a functioning good member of society excellent in school very sociable, artistic even cuts his own hair has his own set of barber tools ,extremely talented ,extremely kind and empathetic, voted best dressed his sophomore year, then literally took off a year to help his grandma recover from a double mastectomy from cancer only to go back and get his GED that being said he also has a cyst in his brain, they used to monitor when it caused headaches and vomiting then symptoms became less frequent so they stopped unless symptoms reoccurred, well for the past few years his behavior has been very out of character they baker acted him 4 days ago , this was a joint decision. Discussed with the deputy in order to try and get him to get him a cat scan to check the cyst, im his healthcare proxy and I've been left out of the plan of care in fact they passed the 72 hr hold and never consulted me as promised because they labeled him incompetent now they have also been holding him still without consent and based on all accounts and reports he has been cooperating, taking meds no aggressive behavior even laughing with an employee and yet they're still holding him , they have not even consulted me regarding getting information as to the size of the cyst on first diagnosis to compare if it's gotten larger as his symptoms are indicating the cyst has grown causing pressure and it is in the frontal left fossa , not to mention he was not bathing adequately which I conveyed as well so he did bath and even wanted a electric shaver to trim his face so tell me why despite bringing him clean cloths days ago and informing multiple employees I dropped off cloths my son hasn't gotten them he said when I visited thats unacceptable that he STILL does not have his clean cloths I provided and I've gotten no information as to why or even when the decided to hold him PAST the 72 hr hold.well this is unlawful at this point because they have not followed proper procedure and this is inhibiting him from getting the proper medical treatment he needs and get back to New York to the Drs who know his condition and close to family and if I don't get reasonable explanations by Monday today being Saturday they will be regretting not following proper procedures. My son has no history or aggressive behavior or psychosis, the medicine is only sedating him and not helping with the misfiring of his brain because it's caused by something medical, at this point I'll be seeking advice on malpractice as well as I'm fully aware of the violations occurring and when consulting the attorney THEY said sounds like your going to want to file for malpractice as well.....so I'm getting prepared...I do want to say not all the employees have this negligence and honestly there are the ones to be commended at least the couple that have given me some update and level of empathy, but there are too many violations occurring in this facility that just may warrant a shutdown and or overhaul in the near future in my personal and professional opinion because this is just one of the severe injustices holding my son despite him meeting the requirements for release is going to cause PTSD on top of what he has to go through medically oh and as I also mentioned this is time sensitive considering his blood work they did is also abnormal and his uncle just passed from a brain tumor they cant rule out wasn't hereditary. This is a travesty to say the least.

No one returns a phone call! No communication at all! I have left 3-4 messages for someone to return my call about my son who was transferred there for mental health/addiction. I would like to send him clothing because he went there with nothing. When I speak to my son he says hes depressed. No one tells him if hes staying there and hes has been wearing the same clothing for a week. Absolutely unacceptable! The response after the google review was to reach out through our website/contact us. Which I did........Still no phone call from anyone

My minor child was sent here under a baker act by her school (which is a whole other story) and when her 72 hours were I they requested consent to switch to voluntary. They made it sound like if we did not consent we'd have the court involved. Mind you, no one has provided one single update or reason why they wanted to keep her longer. I've left a message for the doctor and haven't heard anything. We are now on day four workout a single update. No idea what their assessment has found. We have decided we are going to start the discharge process and if they get the courts involved we will have to let them know that we've been kept in the dark, with not a single update or reason why she should stay. We've already had to reschedule one therapy appointment and put another on hold due to get being in there. So we're prolonging her at home treatment and we're keeping her from her school work. For no given reason. That doesn't sound conducive.
