Their over the counter items is a laugh. First time order for my wife and me was a month ago and still haven't received them. So I guess you can take that $90 benefit and throw it out the door.

I started this insurance this year. So far so bad! I needed a refill for my diabetic test strips and lancets. They refilled the test strips and no lancets! How was I supposed to test my blood sugar without the lancets?I Called many times and was told I had to order their brand. Asked why did they filled the test strips brand I already had then? No answer. Said I would get them within 2 days it took 4 more days. All in all I was unable to test my blood sugar for over a week! And I even told them I was having surgery in a month an it was important that I be able to keep track of my blood sugar. Next, went to hospital for back sprain, hospital ordered a muscle relaxer. They would not pay for it without prior authorization from the hospital, Unacceptable!! Get ready to do all your own leg work telephoning for all of your needs to be filled correctly and in order to get anything DONE!!

I have been a member of optimum for over 9 years. I had a knee replacement a 2 hospital stays. I have never been refused or had to wait for any.care tests or medication.

Wish I could give -10. They don't answer their phones no matter what number you choose, then cut you off. My sister has waited OVER 1 year to be reimbursed for eye surgery which the family paid the eye doctor. Two or 3 times submitted paperwork. Still no money which is needed to purchase the prosthetic eye. Is this the kind of insurance you want to deal with? Go straight Medicare - they offer the best health coverage. You can always make payments if there is money owed. My 90 year old aunt had no problem paying small amounts on bills.

Update - 2-3 years later and still no refund of the $4k the family paid upfront for the surgery. Beware of what you are getting in to. There is more, but I have no more room.

April 2024, still no refund of the $4k. Sister would like to get her prostetic. I don't understand this company's high rating? Must be for easy, simple things.

We have had Optimum insurance since moving back to FL in 2016. Since then I have had a stroke requiring months of rehab. The physical therapists at the hospital recommended a rehab that wasn’t on our list. I sent a short letter to Optimum explaining why my medical team thought that was a better option and they approved it immediately.
My husband and I have each had a knee replacement and several small surgeries. We have found Optimum to be excellent. I’m a retired nurse and was really concerned about going with an advantage plan, but I’m so happy we did.
It is very difficult to navigate the medical system now. We have an excellent primary and I think that is the key to getting good medical care whatever insurance you decide on.

My copays are slightly less than my last plan but still high. My complaint is 2 fold. The main customer service line is run by untrained people who cannot do anything without putting you on hold for long periods. I usually end up hanging up after 10-15 minutes. Today I was asking to go paperless and I was told I'd be on a brief hold.... 10 minutes later I finally hung up. I receive reems of paper from them monthly. All of it trash. I will be switching again in open enrollment to a company that actually knows what they are doing.

Horrible. They can’t answer questions about coverage or many other things.
I unfortunately signed up with them last year and it took 4 months and over 40 hours on the phone to get an approval for my insulin pump supplies. Once the finally approved it they only approved 1 order. This is something I have to have for the rest of my life, not one time.

I went without supplies for over a month. My Dr. And the Medtronic rep called other doctors to get me enough supplies to keep me going.

Worst company and I can’t understand how they have a good rating through the news. Oh, I do know how they get it. The media will lie about almost anything.

I've been a member of Optimum/Freedom for over 10 years and have never been dissatisfied until recently when a prescription was refused coverage. It has been resolved but I have a problem with any insurance company circumventing a doctors decision for treatment. Other than that I highly recommend them for their Advantage Plan coverage.
