I have known Marissa Moore, the founder of Therapy Brooklyn, for 15 years and counting. She is a staunch advocate of mental health justice and runs her practice from this orientation. I know her work intimately, having trained and consulted with her routinely. I put the utmost trust into her clinical judgment and values. I have been so impressed with her direction of Therapy Brooklyn, in regards to both clients and her clinical team. I regularly refer clients there with absolute confidence that the needs of BIPOC folks in particular will be addressed.

If you are looking for a therapist and have found Marissa Moore, congratulations! You can stop your search, Marissa is the best out there. Marissa is a very gifted therapist - I cannot recommend her work highly enough. When I first began seeing Marissa, I was experiencing generalize anxiety symptoms. I could never have expected that in sustained work with her, she would help me uncover the trauma, family and relational dynamics, thought patterns, and actions that were making every day life a challenge.

Every session, I left feeling like I had discovered something new yet familiar about myself. Her support enabled me to identify my thoughts, beliefs, and patterns from a distance and determine whether they were right for me. (Spoiler: rarely.) Marissa helped me investigate their origin and cultivate the power to change them.

Marissa is compassionate, empathetic, thoughtful, and wise. She is an incredible listener and offers useful, non-judgemental, constructive, feedback. Over so many sessions, I arrived with tangled balls of yarn of grief, anxiety, fear, or apathy. She patiently helped me unravel the knots to create something softer.

Marissa is open to whatever her patients need to feel heard and be successful. Implicit in her approach is that the patient is the expert on their own life. She offers tools and resources that patients can independently use and integrate. Her approach allowed me to identify what I needed and how I could meet my own needs.

Though I primarily worked with Marissa one-one, she is also a capable couples counselor. When my partner and I sought her help, she helped me develop so many skills I didn’t realize I was lacking - conflict resolution, listening without judgement, how to meet and mitigate conflict when it comes up. Though the relationship wasn't the one for us in the end, it's because of Marissa's work that I've found myself in the healthiest relationship of my life. Her patience, guidance, support, and wisdom helped me identify how to bring my best self to partnerships.
Because of Marissa, I now know how to be vulnerable without blaming, how to listen, and how to take care of myself and my partner.

If you are in search of a therapist, I cannot recommend Marissa enough. She is truly an amazing therapist, and I’m so grateful for her work.
