I want to share my positive experience with Newport Subacute Healthcare Center. My mother has been living in this facility for almost three years. Initially, the facility faced several challenges, and the previous management did not put in the effort to address and fix problems. Their approach was often dismissive, and they failed to make necessary improvements.

One manager, Michael, was doing a good job, but in my opinion, the team was not well-organized to fix any problems. He had to handle everything alone, which made it difficult to improve the facility.

During this time, I visited my mother every day to ensure she had enough water, liquids, and nutrients in her food, was clean, and safe. I closely supervised her care because I was concerned about the quality of service.

However, since the new Director of Nursing, Shirin, took over, there has been a remarkable transformation. She has been instrumental in addressing issues, improving scheduling, and training the nursing staff effectively. Her strong leadership and dedication have significantly enhanced the quality of care and the overall atmosphere of the facility.

Now, I feel much more comfortable and confident that my mother is well taken care of. Many residents, including my mother, have noticed these positive changes and are much happier now. The doctors, registered nurses, LVNs, CNAs, treatment nurses, and facilities maintenance team all work well together as a team under the new management system. Shirin is intelligent, hardworking, and truly committed to solving problems and making the facility a better place for everyone. The facility has become very welcoming and warm, although there is still a long way to go to fix every problem. Considering she has only been in the role for three months; the improvements are impressive. I believe that within a year or less, this facility will be the best in Orange County.

I highly recommend Newport Subacute Healthcare Center now and commend Shirin, Michael and all the facility employees for their outstanding efforts in driving these improvements.

Let's get out of the way first, the food sucks, but then again you don't go to a medical facility for fine dining. The staff is great. The cna's are amazing especially Silvia, Bennie, Kristal, Erica, Perla, Jared and Soon. The nurses are all good and attentive, especially Rex, Rachel, and Mark. The treatment nurses Michelle and Tara care about their patients and they work hard to do what's best.
The rna's Vincent and Rosario work really hard. The receptionist Angie is super friendly and hard working. Overall the experience has been good. It's not perfect but no place is.

I have a very close friend at this facility. I have been very disappointed with Newport’s physical therapy and occupational therapy. The rehab supervisor, Jose, is incapable of arranging for, or sticking to, a therapy schedule for patients. Instead, he allows the therapists to ask the patients directly to change the therapy schedule on a daily basis to meet their own needs, instead of the needs of the patients. And if the patient does not acquiesce to the therapists’ last minute scheduling requests. the therapists mark the patient down as “refused therapy.”

In my friend’s case, Jose agreed that due to my friend’s dialysis schedule, the therapy would always be in the late afternoons or after dinner, which would give time to recover from the draining 3-hour+ thrice-weekly dialysis sessions. But almost immediately after Jose made that agreement, the therapists started asking my friend if they could start therapy much earlier. And if he said no, they simply informed him that they wouldn’t be there after —- (2:30 pm).

When we complained to Jose about subjecting to patients to these daily scheduling negotiations - which are really a form of bullying because patients’ responses are not respected — Jose refused to exercise his supervisory authority. He completely abdicates his responsibility to the patients.

My dad was admitted to this facility just over a week ago, and the progress he's made has been amazing. He was at another subacute for 6 months, and another before that, and the only thing they did was keep my dad alive, and barely. Here at Newport, my dad has made leaps in bounds in 1 week both physically and mentally. He is cared for by people who want to see him improve, and work hard to make sure he is comfortable and has all of his needs met. The administration team worked tirelessly with us to get him transferred in, and we are so grateful. The respiratory team managed to get my dad onto a speaking valve in a week's time, when he has had little to no change on the vent for 9 months. I cannot say enough good things, and know he will continue to improve thanks to the time put in by the Newport Subacute Care team.

Recently my Mom was admitted to this facility to recover from a stroke. The level of care that she received here was amazing. Despite the restrictions on visitation due to covid: the staff here made my family feel that our Mother was being well taken care of. They never made us feel out of touch with her even though we couldn’t physically be with her. They took every precaution to keep her safe. And I credit her swift recovery to the exceptional care she received while here. The nursing staff was kind and caring. They answered all of our questions. The dr. In charge of her was amazing( Dr. Collado). The administration (Kandice and Masam) that worked with us to coordinate her care was helpful, informative and willing to listen to the family’s input in regard to the care we wanted our Mom to receive. When thinking about a nursing home especially in these days with covid going around one can fall victim to negative thoughts and concerns. Thank God for Newport Subacute. They proved all of those feeling and concerns wrong. If anyone I know ever is in need of such care. I will recommend Newport Subacute. There are too many good nurses to name but the ones who stand out are Gloria, Joseph, Janina, Roy, Sandra, Minjee, Young, Long, Stephanie, Tiffany, and Matt. Thank you to all the staff at Newport Subacute and God bless you all!
