I was admitted to uab med west/new/ on 9/9/24 with Pre-eclampsia, the UAB med west L&D floor was extremely quick with their treatment, the nurses were friendly, and the doctors very respectful! Especially: constance (RN) Dr. Peters , Dr. Kid, and my OB is Dr. Carmen Collins ❤️ /the resident was also very respectful but I don't remember his name/ but all of the staff was nice. This is the 2nd baby I've had at UAB west /same staff new location/ and I'm extremely happy with both experiences ❤️ even when you feel your absolute worst, they are all very kind and respectful

Upstairs after my son had surgery was great. Nurses were helpful and considerate.

ER I would NEVER use again. I took my adult special needs son in for severe stomach pain. Two weeks earlier I had taken him to urgent care for the same pain and he was put on antibiotics for it. I informed them of this.

It turned out he had a hot appendix. The morphine they gave him did not do anything to stop the pain. I went to the nurses desk 3 times and no one came to give him anything else for pain or even to tell us what was going on.

I used the call button 3 times at least. The first time they answered and I told them he was still in a lot of pain. After that, they just opened the channel and left it open a minute then closed it. Never said anything, never responded to my saying "hello".

After I finally tracked his nurse down and asked her what was going on, she told me his CT results weren't back yet. That was because they never took him to get a CT.

I told her we were leaving. Then she came into his curtained area and said the doctor said "since the morphine isn't working, what do you suggest?" Completely unprofessional and made me feel like they thought we were drug seeking.

She told me the CT was backed up and I completely understand that but they should have gotten him pain relief.

Then someone came in to chastise me for complaining about his pain. Told me I can't just snap my fingers and expect immediate service. Rude, but again I understand an ER visit is an absolute minimum of 5 hours. The time is no problem. The unrelenting pain is a big problem!

Once they got the CT and discovered he was not seeking drugs, things happened quickly and he was moved upstairs.

If I could do it again, I would have taken him to the stand alone ER on highway 150. He would have ended up admitted anyway but we could have avoided this horrible ER.

I was admitted on 10/15 to the 8th floor and had the best nurse ever? Raven was my girl she took care of me from the time I was admitted to the time I was discharged! She needs a raise or something. She was very sweet and she listens and was alert. I never had to ask for anything she was always right there with whatever I need. If you ever admitted ask for Raven❤️❤️❤️ My girl the best

The Nurse who took care of me in the emergency department, LPN Taylor, was amazing. Wish she was my actual doctor instead. She made my stay so comfortable and listened to me when I had any pain or questions. She checked on me often made sure I wasn’t feeling any uncomfortable symptoms. These types of interactions are way more important than people think. Thank you ❤️

This place is utter TRASH!!!! I went in for my chest pain, had to wait 4hrs for a room. The staff especially the nurses have NO bedside manners! They forgot to feed me TWICE in a day. Everybody else on that floor ate but me. They DO NOT LISTEN TO THEIR PATIENTS like AT ALL! They take their sweet time responding to the nurse call! They talk to you like you’re stupid (I’ve worked in the medical field as well) it was just horrible. Everything about it! I suggest you take your chances and go to Birmingham cause they ain’t worth what they gone charge you in the end. DONT GO!!

This place may be new but it's horrible! My wife fell yesterday and a ambulance took her there. She was there 4 hours, they didn't clean her cuts and most employees were playing games or looking at personal pictures. They are rude!!! Don't go here. The staff members I spoke with has no experience. Stay away!!!! I would give a 0
Oh, and my wife had to walk herself to the restroom and almost fell as she has two full knee replacements. Most nurses have no experience. I could go on and on about how bad this place is.

My mother was here twice in the ER a few years ago and they treated her well. My father has had to go to the ER twice this year and was admitted both times. Both the ER, ICU, and other floors did very well and the staff was kind and supportive. The hospital is old but they are moving into a brand new building soon.

I love how the hospital has yet to even open yet and they are sending out things to expectant mothers to honor and celebrate us bringing the first rounds of babies to be born in their new hospital along with giving a tour before they open so we can feel a little more confident and comfortable with being there.I’ve never seen a hospital do this kind of thing before.
